Earth Month

April is Earth Month - a time to wrap our arms around this beautiful place we call home. As we celebrate our environment all month, and especially on Saturday, April 22 - Earth Day - we encourage all students, staff, and community members to adopt resource conservation practices at home, work, and school.

There are so many things to think about when it comes to resource conservation that it can feel overwhelming. You might be asking yourself, “Where do I start?!” Each and every day provides a new opportunity to get started or expand your efforts. Each conservation action has an impact - the key is action. Small actions become new habits. New habits become contagious and soon these collective actions result in big change.

Leading up to Earth Day, and keeping with the theme of Investing in Our Planet, HSD invites you to participate in a fun week-long Earth Day BINGO activity that can guide your family in developing more sustainable practices. We encourage you to print it out and put it on your refrigerator or bulletin board for full family participation. The BINGO card contains many useful and interesting links to further assist you. Remember to recycle the card when the week is over OR keep it up and continue on!

Keep in mind that the most effective actions - and the ones you’re likely to stick with - come from topics that interest you. Have fun!

Century Senior Carly Reese

Congratulations are in order for Century High School senior Carly Reese who recently placed 3rd in the nation at the 2023 USA Powerlifting High School Nationals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her squat of 370 lbs. placed 3rd; her bench of 215 lbs. placed 2nd; and her deadlift of 342 lbs. placed 6th. The combined weight of all three lifts was what garnered her 3rd place overall in her class. Way to go, Carly! You make us Proud to be HSD!
