Giving Tuesday

Now in its eleventh year, GivingTuesday is a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity amid the traditional post-Thanksgiving frenzy of consumer deals and sales.

Many nonprofit organizations have lined up matching funds for donations that come in on that day, so it’s an ideal time to support the causes that are important to you. Local organizations like the Hillsboro Schools Foundation, Centro Cultural, Adelante Mujeres, Bienestar, the Oregon Food Bank, Community Action Organization, Latino Network, Boys & Girls Club, Assistance League, Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, Hillsboro Elks, Hillsboro Optimists, and many others work tirelessly to support HSD students and families, as well as others in need in our community. Please consider a donation to one or more of them this Tuesday and beyond.

Are you giving your time rather than your money? Don’t forget to submit those hours if your employer has a program for contributing to the nonprofit organizations where you volunteer. Intel employees are reminded to log their 2023 volunteer hours into Benevity by Friday, Dec. 15 to double the impact.

If you are an HSD staff member, you can also set up recurring donations through payroll deduction for the Hillsboro Schools Foundation and United Way of the Columbia-Willamette. Simply complete the forms linked above and return to the Payroll department. Thank you!

Ladd Acres Career Day

Ladd Acres Elementary School held their annual Career Fair on Friday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This was the culminating event of Career and College Week, where students learned about careers and about staff members’ career and college pathways in the days leading up to the event. At the Career Fair, community members, parents, and high school students shared information about their career journey with students. Kindergartners explored careers with our Career and College Pathways kits - generously supplied by the Hillsboro Schools Foundation. They wore uniforms from the kits and met people who are currently working in the corresponding career field. Students also took a moment to dream about their futures and share their goals in a photo. See additional pictures on our website.
