September is Attendance Awareness Month

Regular, on-time attendance is essential to students’ education. Too many absences - excused or unexcused - can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. Did you know that missing just two days of school per month means a student loses 10% of their instruction for the school year? Learn more about the importance of attendance, download an attendance tracker, and see support strategies on our website. Of course, attendance does not take priority over your health! If you are too sick for school, please stay home and access your work remotely until you are feeling better.

Featured Staff Member: Sheri Fisher, O-ACE Instructor and Hometown Hero

Sheri Fisher is the instructor for our Oregon Aerospace Careers for Everyone - or O-ACE - program. She is also a pilot, is bilingual in English and Spanish, and supports the diversification of the aerospace industry by building connections with young women and students learning English as a second language. On Friday, August 19, she joined an elite group of civilians who can say they’ve flown with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds through their Hometown Heroes program! Bond Update: Liberty Solar Array


After several months of permit review and processing, the contractor is now starting to mobilize on the site to construct Liberty High School’s new solar array canopy. Expected completion is now February 2023. Watch for project updates on hillsboro-bond.org.

Meet our New Student Representatives to the Board


Each year, our Board welcomes three Student Representatives to join them at meetings and share their perspectives. This year’s students are Ivette Alonso Garcia from Liberty, Cailey McGuire from Liberty and Hillsboro Online, and V Godoy from Century. Strategic Planning Community Forums


We are currently developing our Strategic Plan for 2023-2027 and we want your input. Please mark your calendars for two opportunities to learn more and share your feedback: Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Brookwood Public Library; and Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Zoom. The event at the library will feature interpretation in Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, and Arabic. If you need support in a different language, please contact our Language Liaison team at least 24 hours in advance at 503-844-1429.

Sphinx Virtuosi Concert Benefiting HSD Youth Instrument Access Fund


Chamber Music Northwest and the Hillsboro School District are pleased to present a free concert by Sphinx Virtuosi in the Century High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Donations will be accepted for HSD’s Youth Instrument Access Fund.

Parent Partnership Meeting


HSD’s next Parent Partnership meeting for families of students with special needs takes place on Wednesday, Sep. 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the District Administration Center (3083 NE 49th Pl., Hillsboro).

Strengthening Families Workshop


Strengthening Families is a free Zoom class for caregivers and children 10-14 taking place on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sep. 28 through Nov. 9. Caregivers will learn strategies to effectively parent young teens, while youth will learn the skills they need to be independent.

National Voter Registration Day


National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sep. 20. The Oregon Secretary of State and many other groups in Oregon are helping register new voters and remind current voters to check and update their information. Learn more at Oregonvotes.gov.

Washington County Commissioners Town Hall
