October is National Bullying Prevention Month

Kind and respectful behavior is expected and encouraged all year long, but we pay special attention to it in October during National Bullying Prevention Month.

Bullying is repeated, unwanted, and aggressive behavior where someone uses their power, real or perceived, to hurt someone or make them feel bad or intimidated. There are many different types of bullying, including verbal, physical, social, and cyberbullying.

If bullying is happening, it is important for our students to communicate with the adults in their school or at least to report the behavior through anonymous tip lines provided by the Hillsboro School District or SafeOregon so that swift and appropriate interventions can be initiated.

In HSD, one of our goals is to create warm and welcoming classroom environments where all students and staff feel accepted and included. By fostering positive relationships, we are helping students practice positive social skills and reduce bullying behaviors. In addition, the District is fortunate to have established strong partnerships with social service agencies. There are many proactive programs supported by these partnerships that are designed to protect the safety of students through educating, engaging and supporting them in making positive choices in their lives…READ MORE

Subaru Loves Learning and W.L. Henry Elementary School

Congratulations to W.L. Henry Elementary School! They were selected as the Royal Moore Subaru Loves Learning partner school for the third year in a row! Through a partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Subaru and its retailers have supported more than 470,000 students nationwide, including the 320+ students at W.L. Henry. On Wednesday, Sept. 27 during an academic seminar, representatives from our local Royal Moore Subaru surprised staff with a $7,500 donation, 15 school supply kits, and treats for their meeting. The monetary donation will allow each teacher to select $500 worth of additional supplies of their choosing through the AdoptAClassroom platform. We are so grateful for the support of Royal Moore Subaru and other donors! Your in-kind and monetary donations do so much to support our students and staff. Thank you!
