Spring will soon be upon us and that means it’s time for our next round of high school plays!
First up, with nearly identical run times, are Glencoe and Liberty with their productions of Urinetown - The Musical and Lucky Stiff, respectively.
In Urinetown - a unique, entertaining, and thought-provoking musical with a stinky name - the residents of a dystopian, unknown town must pay to use the amenities after the “big stink” nearly destroyed everything. Things seem under control until rising prices lead citizens to rebel. Feb. 24 and 25, Mar. 2 through 4, all shows at 7:30 p.m., recommended for ages 10+.
Based on the novel The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo by Michael Butterworth, Lucky Stiff is an offbeat, hilarious murder mystery farce, complete with mistaken identities, six million bucks in diamonds, and a corpse in a wheelchair. Feb. 24 and 25, Mar. 3 and 4, all shows at 7 p.m.
Hilhi is next with Into the Woods, opening on Mar. 9, and Century is close behind with Singin’ in the Rain, which opens Mar. 10.
Into the Woods is a Tony Award-winning collaborative effort between James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim in which well known storybook characters are brought together into a new story complete with a Witch’s curse, wishes granted, and unintended consequences. Showtimes are Mar. 9,10,16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Mar. 11 and 18 at 2:30 p.m.
Come see real rain on stage! Singin’ in the Rain “pours” down delight, capturing the waning days of the silent screen era as they give way to new-fangled “talkies,” and calling into question what it means to act, how credit is distributed, and what it means to get a fair shake in the movie business. Showtimes are Mar. 10,11,16,17, and 18 at 7 p.m., and Mar. 11 at 2 p.m. Learn more on our website.
