Hillsboro School District Graduation Rate Tops 87 Percent
Hillsboro School District is pleased to announce another graduation rate increase, continuing its year-over-year upward trajectory over the last several years. More than 87 percent of seniors in the class of 2020 graduated on-time and more than 90 percent completed on-time. In addition, greater than 91 percent of all students in the class of 2019 graduated in either four or five years, as indicated by the 5-year cohort graduation rate.
Liberty, Glencoe, and Hillsboro Online Academy reached their highest graduation rates ever under the cohort calculation model that has been in place since 2010* (*2008-09 graduation rates were calculated under both the NCES and cohort models). The cohort graduation rate calculation looks at the number of students who graduate high school within four years of first entering 9th grade. The number of students dropping out is also the lowest it has ever been across the board, with all schools and the District boasting rates of less than one percent.
 
“Even amid the incredibly destabilizing events of the spring with the pandemic, our students were motivated and determined to graduate,” notes Assistant Superintendent Dayle Spitzer. “Our staff also deserve so much credit for supporting students who needed a little extra help to cross the finish line.”
 
Superintendent Mike Scott continues: “We are so proud of the class of 2020 for their resilience and determination in the face of so much disappointment at the end of their senior year. We wish them nothing but success in the future.”

First Semester Ends and No School Days
First semester ends on Thursday, Jan. 28; there will be no school for all students on Friday, Jan. 29, and Monday, Feb. 1, for teacher grade prep and licensed prep, respectively. School resumes and second semester begins for all students on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
