Hillsboro School District Graduation Rates Hold Steady | |
The graduating class of 2023 was the first “full pandemic” cohort, meaning they lost the last quarter of their freshman year to the beginning of COVID and spent their entire sophomore year in distance and hybrid learning. Despite this significant challenge, 86.18% of students districtwide graduated in four years. This represents a very slight decrease of 0.09 percentage points from 2022, is less than one percentage point away from the district’s all-time high of 87.07% in 2020, and is 4.86 percentage points above the state average. | |

Bond Update: Final Report | |
After hundreds of projects and over half a billion dollars invested in infrastructure, the 2017 Hillsboro School District Bond is now concluded. End of First Semester and No School Days
First semester ends on Thursday, Feb. 1. There will be no school for all students on Friday, Feb. 2 and Monday, Feb. 5 as teachers prepare grades and get ready for second semester, which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

2024-25 Calendar Update
At their meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23 the Board suspended the calendar adoption process and asked staff to bring a post-Labor Day start option for the 2024-25 school year to the February work session for first reading. For future calendar planning, staff will convene a group to look more closely at the variety of factors influencing and impacting scheduling decisions.

2024-25 In-District Transfer Priority Window
The priority window for 2024-25 in-district student transfer requests is Jan. 1-31, 2024. HSD Family Saturday Academy
HSD invites all families to join us for a morning of integrated sessions on social-emotional learning, mental health, technology, and more from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 10 at R.A. Brown Middle School. Breakfast and childcare will be provided; please register in advance.

Immunization Exclusion Day and Vaccine Events
Students attending public schools in Oregon must have all required vaccinations or a medical or nonmedical exemption to remain enrolled after Feb. 21, 2024. Our school-based health center at Century High School is holding a series of vaccine events on Mondays to help ensure students have the vaccines they need in advance of this date. Self Regulation Seminar
HSD’s Student Services department invites you to join Dr. Robinson for a seminar on self regulation during stressful times. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Administration Center. Pizza, drinks, and childcare will be provided.

Give Kids A Smile Free Dental Clinic
In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, Pacific University’s dental hygiene program is hosting a free Give Kids a Smile event on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their Hillsboro clinic (222 SE 8th Ave.). Children ages 5-18 will receive dental cleanings, exams, x-rays, fillings, and extractions (as needed). Call 503-352-7373 for an appointment; no insurance or proof of identification required.

Mental Health Workshop in Spanish
Spanish-speaking families are invited to a Mental Health Workshop from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Witch Hazel Elementary School. Activities for children, food, and a chance to win a $25 Visa gift card will be available.

API Family Engagement Lunar New Year Celebration
The Asian and Pacific Islander Family Engagement Committee invites you to celebrate the Year of the Dragon at a Lunar New Year event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Poynter Middle School. The event features food, arts and crafts, a lion dance, and raffle.

Fentanyl Awareness Family Night
HSD is hosting a Substance Use Family Night with a focus on Fentanyl Awareness on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. During the event, families will be able to hear more about the district’s lessons, as well as systems of support in both HSD and Washington County.

Girls in Sports Day
Hillsboro Parks & Rec invites participants to its Girls in Sports Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Hidden Creek Community Center. This free event will allow youth in grades 3 through 8 the opportunity to rotate through different sports stations, learn the basic skills and rules of each sport, and play fun games. Intergalactic Challenger Chess Tournament

HSF Blazers Night
The Hillsboro Schools Foundation invites you to join them at the Moda Center on Friday, Mar. 8 to watch the Blazers take on the Houston Rockets. All who order through the link by Monday, Feb. 5 can enter the arena 30 minutes early to watch warm-ups, and 22 lucky kids will be chosen to high-five the Blazers as they come out of the tunnel. Tickets start at $25.

The HSD Board of Directors comprises seven elected members serving four-year terms and three student representatives serving a one-year term. Board members are community volunteers and do not receive compensation for their work. Board members establish policy based on Oregon and Federal laws governing schools.
