Washington County Submits Plan for Entering Phase 1
All but five counties in Oregon have been approved for Phase One reopening, and now Washington County is ready for that step as well. On Friday, May 22, the County submitted its plan to the State with a goal of entering Phase One on June 1. The success of that effort is largely dependent upon the County’s ability to hire and train* enough contract tracing staff who are reflective of our community. (*Washington County is hiring contact tracers and resource coordinators; jobs are posted on the Public Health Institute website. Bilingual/bicultural applicants are encouraged to apply.) The County’s reopening plan is consistent with the Governor’s Framework for Reopening Oregon and subsequent directives. The following principles will be observed: save lives; incorporate equity; employ a science and data-based approach; coordinate both locally and regionally; remain flexible and nimble. Once the County’s plan is approved for Phase One reopening, restaurants and bars, personal care services (salons, barber shops, massage, etc.), and gyms/fitness may reopen so long as rules are followed around physical distancing, limits on gathering sizes, use of face coverings, and the implementation of other safety measures.
