The Hillsboro Early Learning Fair takes place virtually this week, with speaker panel events each night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Early Learning Fair provides an opportunity for families to gather information and community resources covering several topics designed to enhance and supplement a child’s first five years. Local preschools, child advocacy organizations, and businesses that focus on early learning will all be participants.
Families will have an opportunity to pick up a physical goodie bag of resource materials prior to the event; locations and times for the goodie bag pick-up can be found on theEarly Learning Fair webpage.
The following week, HSD will open kindergarten registration. Children must be five years old by Sep. 1, 2021, to enroll for the 2021-22 school year. Register at your “home” school* using the Enrollment Process as soon as possible. Doing so helps schools ensure they have the staff in place to welcome and support your child through a positive and rewarding experience. (*To confirm your assigned home school of attendance, please use the “Find my Home School” online tool or contact Transportation at 503-844-1123).
All families living in North Plains should plan to enroll at North Plains Elementary School. Through the upcoming boundary process, the current North Plains attendance area will be divided between North Plains and Atfalati Ridge Elementary Schools. Once that process is complete and new attendance boundaries are uploaded to our Transportation Routing and Student Information Systems later this spring, students will automatically be reassigned to the correct school and families will be informed about which school their child will attend.
Featured Event: Art Kit Donation
The Right Brain Initiative and the Hillsboro Schools Foundation have collaborated to provide more than 9,100 K-8 students in 24 HSD schools with art kits! Called “Endless Joy,” the kits include drawing and painting supplies as well as “loose parts” bags that contain new craft items and upcycled materials, along with 25 age-appropriate lessons written by Right Brain teaching artists. At the back of each lesson booklet is a blank lesson template so students can create their own projects to share with friends and family. We are extremely grateful to Right Brain and HSF for giving the gift of creativity to our students!
