2023 Valedictorians and Salutatorians

On Thursday, May 25 we had the privilege of gathering and celebrating HSD’s ninety-two Class of 2023 Valedictorians and Salutatorians at a luncheon event at Hidden Creek Community Center. Superintendent Mike Scott, Mayor Steve Callaway, Chamber President Deanna Palm, Hillsboro Schools Foundation Executive Director Aron Carleson, and School Board Chair Mark Watson were all on hand to congratulate our highest achievers and wish them well on their journey beyond high school.

Students’ plans include attending colleges and universities in Oregon, across the U.S., and even abroad. Regardless of their next steps, they have all learned some valuable lessons along the way and took a moment to share their words of wisdom for incoming 9th graders. Way to go, Vals & Sals! You make us Proud to be HSD!

The Toast Lads

Congratulations are in order for The Toast Lads - Century High School’s game design team - for winning Best in Show at the Oregon Game Project Challenge. The event was held at Western Oregon University on Saturday, May 20 and brought together forty-two high school teams from around the state to showcase their game design under the theme of “Breaking Conventions.” The Toast Lads team, made up of junior Jason Pelkey and sophomores Josh Harrison, Aiden Jungels, Levi Kelson, and Jake Pelkey, have been working on their game “SENSE” - a horror-based strategy game - since mid-November. SENSE is a multi-level escape game with a variety of monsters the player is trying to avoid. The player begins with all five senses, but the game “gets harder as the senses and gadgets that keep you alive are taken one by one from you by a dark and wispy figure.” Awesome job and way to represent HSD, Toast Lads!!
