As we close out the 2019-20 school year, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind students, staff, families, and community members that Hillsboro School District recognizes the diversity and worth of all students, individuals and groups. We are committed to both educating all students and providing a safe and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of their race, color, religion, sex or sexual orientation, immigration status, or any other basis.
June 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the annual LGBTQ+ Pride traditions in the U.S. The City of Hillsboro would have joined in with its annual Pride Party, if not for current circumstances (look for a rescheduling of the celebration in the fall). Instead, they have launched a virtual event that will include entertainment, activities, resources, LGBTQ+ history, and more. As part of the online festivities, the City compiled videos of support and inclusion from community partners, including HSD. Evergreen Middle School counselor Beth Russell conceptualized our entry - a time-lapse video showing students, staff, family, and community members contributing to chalk art conveying the message that “our garden grows more effectively and beautifully with a variety of flowers.” Many thanks to Beth and to everyone who contributed to the drawing!
