As you know, Governor Brown has ordered schools closed through Tuesday, April 28. HSD Staff has been working hard to devise plans to expand meal service to students and to determine how best to keep students learning throughout the extended closure, among many other things. We deeply appreciate your patience as we work with colleagues at the state, county, and local levels to create consistent messaging around how our schools will continue to serve students. Look for more information to come this week.
Our coronavirus webpage is updated on a daily basis, so please check back often for new information. Most recently, we added a Community Resources document, which contains information on a number of topics, including where to find meal and housing assistance, how to avoid COVID-19-related scams, and how to help those in need. The City of Hillsboro announced that on Monday, March 23, Hillsboro business owners and community members who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 health and economic crisis will be able to apply for assistance using the City’s website.
Finally, as we officially enter Spring Break, health officials are urging everyone - especially young people - to take the orders of social distancing and limiting the size of gatherings seriously. Also, if you will be visiting a park or playground, please bring your own wipes and sanitizer and wipe down any surfaces before you touch them.
These days, we can all use a reason to smile. And hearing about the special connection Century High School teacher Wayne Bohm has with his students gives us plenty of them. Check out KATU’s recent Leaders in Learning segment featuring Wayne and his “Bohm Squad".
