Featured Event: Atfalati Ridge Dedication
On Thursday, Sept. 2, HSD’s newest school, Atfalati Ridge Elementary, was officially dedicated and opened. Superintendent Mike Scott, Board Chair Mark Watson, North Plains City Councilor Russ Sheldon, and Principal Dani Johnson addressed the crowd, unveiled the dedication plaques mounted just outside the front doors, and then ceremoniously cut a ribbon to commemorate the school’s readiness for students. Despite COVID-related limitations, about 400 people were able to tour the building in small groups afterward...

Welcome Back Conferences and First Day of School
School staff will be reaching out to students and families on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 7 and 8, to welcome them to the school year and discuss any support needs they may have. The first day of school for all students is Thursday, Sept. 9. We’re so excited to see you!
Voluntary Weekly COVID Screening Testing
HSD is working with OHSU and OHA to provide free weekly PCR COVID screening tests to students whose families opt them in. We will begin with a pilot program at one or more elementary schools, then expand to all elementary schools, with further expansion to other grade levels possible in the future. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks.
Back to School Travel Options and Safety Reminders
A new school year is a great opportunity for students to set new healthy habits and routines. Walking or riding (bike, skateboard, scooter, or bus) to school can be a fun way to help their hearts, minds, and bodies as they develop new routines. OPB Think Out Loud: Oregon Aerospace Careers for Everyone (O-ACE)
On Monday, Aug. 30, Oregon Public Broadcasting aired a segment on their Think Out Loud program featuring HSD teacher Sheri Fisher and student Ivette Alonso Garcia. The interview highlights the personal experiences and perspectives of Sheri and Ivette as women and women of color in aviation, and emphasizes the equity goals of the O-ACE program. 
School-Based Health Center Tours
Our school-based health center at Century High School is offering 10-15 min. tours for students, families, and staff between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8. All visitors will be entered into a prize raffle. Contact SBHC Youth Coordinator Anna Brase Shevchenko with questions.

All staff should login to the iVisions portal and verify that their profile and emergency contact information are current. Also, any banking/direct deposit changes need to be to Payroll by Tuesday, Sept. 7 for the September pay period.
Benefits Open Enrollment
It is required for all staff that are half-time or more to login to myoebb.com and make their insurance selections, opt out, or waive benefits by Tuesday, Sept. 7. If you are not signed up by Sept. 7, you will see a double deduction on your October payroll.

The HSD Board of Directors comprises seven elected members serving four-year terms and three student representatives serving a one-year term. Board members are community volunteers and do not receive compensation for their work. Board members establish policy based on Oregon and Federal laws governing schools.
