Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month
September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, when mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention and awareness across the country. Suicide Prevention Month provides a dedicated time to come together with collective strength around a difficult topic and educate ourselves on how we can help those who may be struggling. 

There has never been a more important time to have honest conversations about mental health conditions and suicide, because just one conversation can change a life. It is also important to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention. 

One national resource is The Lifeline network. The Lifeline and its partners are working to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention, and to actions that can promote healing, help, and hope. The Lifeline provides 24/7 free, confidential support to people in distress; prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones; and best practices for professionals. Call 1-800-273-TALK or go to www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org for more information.

A state-level resource is YouthLine, which is a free, confidential teen-to-teen crisis and help line. Students can call 1-877-968-8491, text teen2teen or e-mail teen2teen@LinesforLife.org.

Featured Event: Intel and Hillsboro Hops Donation to HSF
The Hillsboro Hops and Intel have partnered to support the Hillsboro Schools Foundation’s new “Imagine your Adventure/Imagina tu Aventura” program, which brings bilingual, bicultural career exploration kits and programs to all kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms in HSD. Intel committed to donate $10 for every strikeout by a Hops pitcher this past season. Hops pitchers had delivered 918 strikeouts by Aug. 27, 2021, totaling $9,180; however, Intel generously decided to round up their donation to $50,000 to enhance their support of future STEM opportunities for HSD students! September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month, where we take time to recognize the achievements and contributions of generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Vaccination Event at Brown Middle School
Virginia Garcia will host a vaccine clinic at R.A. Brown Middle School on Tuesday, Sep. 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They have both the Pfizer (12 and older) and Moderna (18 and older) vaccines available and are offering a free Walmart gift card or TriMet Hop Pass to those receiving shots! HSF Alumni Network Golf Tournament
There’s still time to sign up for the Hillsboro Schools Foundation’s Alumni Network golf tournament at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 23, at McKay Creek Golf Course. The HSD Board of Directors comprises seven elected members serving four-year terms and three student representatives serving a one-year term. Board members are community volunteers and do not receive compensation for their work. Board members establish policy based on Oregon and Federal laws governing schools.
