Women’s History Month is a time to reflect on the important role women have played in United States history. Born out of a week-long celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history, and society, organized by California’s Sonoma School District in 1978, the designation of the entire month of March for the recognition of women was made by Congress in 1987. From intellectual, ideological, and political leaders, to sports and entertainment figures and more, brave and strong women have helped shape our country into what it is today.
