What's Happening at Hillsdale

Oh what a night it will be...tonight is the long awaited A Knight 4 the Cure! In case you haven't heard it lately, we appreciate YOU--the HHS family. We were worried about the donations for the event, but with reminders--people came through! Thank you!! We are still in need of volunteers during the event--if we get enough volunteers, you can share with your partner taking turns to peek at the game. This is such a fun event to volunteer for---click here to see what we still need. AK4TC Sign Up

What IS A Knight 4 the Cure, you may ask...it is a flag football event where students are coaches. They coach the players (also students) in a game of flag football. It starts with Freshmen vs Juniors and Sophomores vs Seniors in games on the field. (They play simultaneously on half of the field) The event will be kicked off by the cast of Cabaret. Then the games, followed by the amazing halftime show with cheer, dance, and players. The event wraps up with the championship (winners from the first two games) and the overall winner getting the Pink Football Trophy! Before and throughout the event, there will be food/drink sales just like regular football games--but we will have LUMPIA. There will also be some clubs selling items. Pink shirts and other themed items (pink pumpkins and locks to honor loved ones) will also be sold. The event will be taking cash, Venmo, and Square ($5 minimum for Square--just like at games) Proceeds from the event are split between all 4 classes AND a Breast Cancer charity, making this truly a full school community event.

NEED TICKETS FOR TONIGHT?? Skip the line and use GoFan! Flyer with QR Code and link below.

This morning, to wrap up Pink Week, we will host a fabulous Pink breakfast for our faculty and staff. Thanks to our Hospitality Crew for purchasing and baking treats. Pictures will be coming next week. A special thank you to Cruel Donuts (@crueldonuts) for the delicious and beautiful pink donuts for the second year in a row! They are HHS family owned and located in Laurie Meadows. Definitely worth a visit!!

From one big event, to the next...we are a week away from the opening of Cabaret!! If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, you need to. We were able to watch a sneak peek of the show at 8th Grade Family Knight last week...and are sharing pictures. Click here for tickets  Cabaret Tickets

SAVE THE DATE--For those of you who haven't already marked the calendar...the Homecoming Football Games are both at Aragon--JV is Thursday. November 7th @ 6pm and Varsity is Saturday, November 9th @ 12pm. The Dance will be on Saturday, November 9th @ 8pm. Details about the dance and tickets will be coming soon.

We deeply appreciate all of your support during these up and coming events and activities. Without you, we wouldn't have the strong HHS community we are so proud to be a part of.

With Knight Pride,

Jen and Holly

Dear Hillsdale Families,

As you know, Hillsdale's nationally-recognized House system is amazing. The fact that we have these dedicated Advisors in the context of our Small Learning Communities makes such a positive impact in the lives of our students, and distinguishes Hillsdale from other schools.

That said, this program is expensive to run. Together, if all families contribute what is significant yet feasible, we can reach our 100% Family Participation Goal. Today, we are currently only at 14%.

Please give any amount before Giving Tuesday (December 3) to be included on our Donor List, which will be published before Winter Break.

Thank you,

Marcine Jansen, Executive Director

"Empathy is the starting point for creating a community and taking action. It's the impetus for creating change." - Max Carver

Peace Pantry

If you would like to volunteer at our Peace Pantry this Friday OR in October please sign up here. Starting this Friday, our Peace Pantry is shifting to a Farmer's Market Format. We think this new format will directly benefit our families and will support Second Harvest who is facing overwhelming demand for families who are food insecure in the Bay Area.

Our Ask: In addition to our dedicated volunteer team, we will need additional volunteers to support this new Farmer's Market ~ Peace Pantry.

Please Review:

  1. If you can volunteer on Friday mornings, please add your name to the sign up list so that we are clear about how many volunteers we have in the coming weeks as we make the switch to the Farmer’s Market (for everyone except delivery folks).
  2. There are two main shifts 7:00-7:30 set-up & 7:30-8:30 distribution. You are welcome to sign-up for both, of course.
  3. Please see this pdf of the layout to help orient yourself to the new setup - and emphasize that we need more helpers!

Our Community Garden Team is currently producing over 100 pounds of organic fruits and vegetables each week which directly supports Hillsdale families enrolled in our Peace Pantry. *Please follow us on Instagram, @hhs_community_garden, for updates. *We need additional support in October putting a fresh layer of wood chips down to help prepare our garden for rain and winter.

Community Closet

Our Community Closet Team is working hard on our Community Closet expansion project. Soon, students will be able to access a well designed space to shop for clothes and essential items. Our volunteer team is currently in need of (ONLY) men’s (high school age) jeans, Hillsdale gear/swag, new socks, new undershirts and essential items. We can accept donations every Wednesday from 2:45pm-4:00pm OR Friday mornings from 7:30am-8:30am in the Alameda Parking Lot. *Please follow us on Instagram @hhs_community_closet

The research shows that:

  • Curiosity is one of the strongest predictors of academic achievement in both math and reading for both children and teenagers.
  • Students’ curiosity is linked to their life satisfaction, positive emotions, hope, purpose in life, as well as self-compassion.
  • Curiosity leads to more enjoyment and participation in school and higher academic achievement, as well as greater learning and engagement.
