What's Happening at Hillsdale

Hillsdale Families,

Huge Congratulations to our Men's Varsity Soccer team for winning the CCS Division III Championship!! It is Hillsdale's first ever CCS soccer championship--boys or girls. They won last night's game vs Granada and are moving on to the NorCal Finals this Saturday at 3pm. The game will be at Archie Williams High School in San Anselmo if you want to go and support our team. GO KNIGHTS!

This week's bulletin will be short and sweet--because we are hoping to see everyone on Thursday for Open House! We will have a table and would love for you to stop by and say hi. Check out the agenda and map here. Make note that there are special 10th and 12th grade parent/guardian meetings to go over some things to be expecting.

We continue to look for people interested in being an active part of PTSO next school year...click here to give us your information and to learn more. Athletics is also looking for active members for next school year. Email Jenna Carson jalcarson@stanfordalumni.org if you are interested. We welcome all and experience NOT needed - just a willingness to help the parent booster clubs.

We are also one week away from opening night for Radium Girls. Our cast and the drama boosters have been working hard to get ready. If you are want to come see the show, click here.

One last thing...we are looking for baked goodies for our March Hospitality that we are co-hosting with Leadership. Click here to donate. Thanks to those who have already donated. Thanks also to those who donated to the BSU Movie Night last week.

As always, we appreciate all that you do to support us and other parent groups. Please make sure to read through the bulletin in its entirety so that you don't miss anything!

Have a great week,

Holly and Jen

This week's Volunteer Opportunities:

Dear Hillsdale Community,

We still need to raise $100,000 to pay the costs of our House system that our district does not pay, which consist mostly of additional teacher salaries. If we don’t raise this money now, we can’t pay enough teachers to offer Advisory for all Hillsdale students. Our Small Learning Communities program is amazing, it is nationally recognized as one of the best, and it is expensive to run compared to an average public school.

Can you give any amount today so we can continue to provide our House system? Together, we can make it happen.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

Marcine Jansen

Executive Director, Hillsdale High School Foundation

Youth Heart Screenings Save Lives!

1 in 300 youth has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The current standard approach to health history and annual physical examinations misses about 90% of at-risk youth. Early detection of heart abnormalities, which often go undetected until a traumatic cardiac event, can save lives.

HHS Peace Pantry ~ Community Garden ~ Community Closet

March

“If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.” — Kofi Annan

March 1, 2025

Hillsdale Community,

Most of us have a morning routine. Some get up early and go to the gym or for a morning run while others enjoy coffee and the newspaper before getting our kids to school and then off to work. Hillsdale has been fortunate to have a group of dedicated adults and some emerging students who one day a week take a break from their morning routine for an hour of community service at our Peace Pantry. During the month of March, we want to spotlight in our newsletter (see below) and on Instagram @hhs_community_garden,some of our dedicated volunteers from our Peace Pantry who support our mission to address food insecurity in our Hillsdale Community.

Our Peace Pantry relies on volunteers who show up at 7:00am on Friday mornings to help set up our Farmer’s Market. Volunteers organize fruits, vegetables, dry goods, bread, dairy, protein, organic fruits and vegetables from our garden, essential items and cultural food staples from Mi Rancho Market. At 7:30am, additional volunteers show up to distribute food and essential items to families while another team of volunteers show up to deliver groceries to families who do not have transportation. By 8:00am, our volunteer team starts to clean up, break down boxes and put tables away.

Our volunteers on Friday mornings consist of Hillsdale staff, current parents, alumni, students and community members. Most importantly, our volunteers are willing to do the heart work needed in communities more than ever. If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities at our Peace Pantry, you may sign up below to work a Friday morning shift or simply just show up and we will have a veteran volunteer get you started. No experience is required other than the ability to offer someone in our community a smile and an hour of your time.

Hillsdale Stands Together!

Peace Pantry

If you would like to volunteer at our Peace Pantry in March please sign up here. Our volunteer team meets in the Alameda Parking Lot every Friday morning at 7:00am (shift #1) and/or 7:30am (shift #2) to provide weekly groceries and essential items to families. Volunteers can sign up to help set up and/or work a station at our Farmer’s Market and/or break down. No experience required.

Community Garden

If you are interested in joining our Community Garden Team please email bstevenson@smuhsd.org to learn more. The winter months are a slow time of year in our garden but we can add you to our weekly WhatsApp Group Chat outlining how many volunteers we need each week and the specific garden tasks. Our volunteer team meets in the garden Thursdays from 3:30pm-5:00pm. No experience required. *Please follow us on Instagram, @hhs_community_garden, for updates.

*Save the date: April 19, 2025 8:30am-12:30pm for our Annual Spring Planting and Work Day in the Garden.

Community Closet

Our Community Closet Team is working hard on our Community Closet expansion project. In April, students will be able to access a well designed space to shop for clothes and essential items. **March Ask: Our volunteer team is currently in need of jeans, hoodies, coats/jackets, Hillsdale gear/swag, new socks, new undershirts, shampoo/conditioner and essential items. We would also appreciate donations of solid/dark ties and other dress clothing for Prom. We can accept donations every Wednesday from 2:45pm-4:00pm OR Friday mornings from 7:30am-8:30am in the Alameda Parking Lot. *Please follow us on Instagram @hhs_community_closet
