What's Happening at Hillsdale

Knights Families,

Another Friday, another bulletin! As promised last week, we've added something fun to this week's edition, "Match the Cookie with the HHS Staff". We randomly selected 12 staff members and asked them what their favorite cookie was. Now, comes the fun part...you can match the people with their favorites. Try not to peek!! You will need to scroll through the bulletin to find the answers.

Now that we've got your attention, don't forget that we have a PTSO General Meeting this Monday, December 11 @ 6:30pm via Zoom and in person. This month the meeting is IN THE LIBRARY. All are welcome to attend.

Did you miss last night's Winter Concert Series? Not to worry--night two is tonight in the auditorium! Detailed information is at the end of the bulletin. Come out and support our HHS musicians.

This coming Tuesday, December 12, the VAPA (visual and performing arts) events continue with the Winter Dance Show in the Little Theater. If you haven't seen one of our dance shows, you should take advantage of this opportunity.

Then on Wednesday, December 13 @ 5pm, the Freshmen and Sophomore Classes are having a Movie Night (a shared fundraiser)---students are invited to come and enjoy $3 pizza, $2 cocoa, and $1 candy in their PJs. Admission is free! See flyer for more information.

There are also sports contests (see schedule below for specific sports, days, and times) both home and away taking place next week.

Read on through the bulletin for: ways to support the Hillsdale Community (via Peace Pantry, Community Closet, and Community Garden), ways to support the HHS Foundation (through your donations, corporate matching, or purchasing a theater seat), ways to support our Junior students (mock interviews), ways to remember this school year (purchasing a yearbook)

Don't forget to scroll through the bulletin to find the answers to the Cookie Matching!

Let us know if you enjoyed this activity by clicking this anonymous link Cookie Matching. The link will remain open until Tuesday, December 12.

Have a great week!

4th Annual Hillsdale High School Holiday Giving Campaign

Hillsdale High School Stands Together to Support

Vulnerable Families in our Community

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to help us continue to serve families in need through our Peace Pantry, Community Closet and Community Garden:

  • For $50 a month you can support a Hillsdale family with groceries and essential items from Mi Rancho Market every other week.
  • A pledge of $600 will support a family for the next twelve months.
  • A donation of any amount will directly support a Hillsdale family experiencing food insecurity.

We Need Your Help!

Can you help us make a bigger impact in 2024?

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our Holiday Giving Campaign (runs December 1st -31st) so we can continue to offer support through our Hillsdale Peace Pantry, Community Closet and Community Garden.

Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Hillsdale Foundation, a 501c3. If your employer does matching gifts, you can double your impact.

A Note from Katherine Goodman, HHSF Executive Director

One of the best parts of my job is getting to hear all of the stories that folks at Hillsdale have about our school and the enormous positive impact it’s had on their lives.

Take, for example, the story of Susan Bedford. Susan was a teacher in Hillsdale’s English department for thirty years, from 1970 through 2000. She played an important role in creating some of the projects that students at Hillsdale still complete every year, including the William Golding Trial, which 10th graders participated in this week.

A William Golding Trial blast from the past!

A William Golding Trial 2023

You can read more about the history of the William Golding Trial, and Susan’s role in its creation, here. The Foundation will share more of Susan’s story – because she did so many amazing things here at Hillsdale! – in our December e-newsletter, which will go out to all parents in a couple of weeks.

An amazing 63% of Hillsdale parents read the Foundation’s November e-newsletter, and we’re looking forward to creating monthly emails going forward that illustrate just how incredible the Hillsdale community is and how the Foundation is honored to play a role in supporting our school. If you have a story idea for us, please ping me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you!

Junior Mock Interviews - Volunteers Needed to Conduct Interviews!

During 11th grade advisory, every student will write a professional resume and participate in a 30-minute mock interview. This long-standing project is a great way to support students as they prepare for the world after high school. We need your help to make the experience authentic!

Interviews will be on February 27, 28 and 29 (Tues/Wed/Th) and will be both in person and via Zoom. Friends, family and community members are welcome to participate.
