What's Happening at Hillsdale

Happy Veteran's Day, Knights Families!

We know there are veterans in our HHS family and community, and so the PTSO would like to thank all veterans for their service to our country.

We hope that everyone enjoyed last week's Homecoming activities and dance. Thanks to the Cheer Coaches--Tess Mirt and Savina Lopez, Cheer Liason--Antoinette Chavez, Activities Director--Sabrina Braccini, and the Cheer families for helping make the dance a memorable evening for all. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful community to help ensure activities like these are a part of our students' high school experience.

Last night, our fall production of Shrek opened! If you've been at school on weekends or in late evenings lately, you've probably seen the crew building and creating sets or perhaps run into some of the cast coming to or leaving rehearsal. There's still time to purchase tickets--click here Flyer Link Ticket prices increase at the door. All SMUHSD students can attend for free!

This weekend, we have not one, but two CCS contests. Tonight, Varsity football vs. Menlo Atherton @ Menlo Atherton at 7:00pm. Ticket links below. Saturday, Cross Country @ Hallmark Park in Belmont at 1:45pm

Monday, we have our monthly PTSO meeting both in-person and virtually. All are welcome--we would love to see you there. Flyer with details is attached. The monthly MUSIC BOOSTER meeting is November 15th (details below)

Wednesday, November 15th is the mandatory Winter Sports Parent Meeting (information in the athletics portion of the bulletin below)

Thursday, HHS Ensemble is hosting a joint school concert with Abbott and Bowditch Middle Schools for FREE. Donations for the music programs will be accepted at the door.

Panorama Survey ~ your opinion matters!

Please take the Panorama Survey today!

The Panorama Survey is issued to parents and guardians, students and staff of the San Mateo Union High School District every year. Each of these groups is given a survey unique to their group. The District is issuing this survey, because we want to know what each of these groups think about their experience in our schools. We want to know your thoughts and opinions on:

  • School culture and climate
  • Communications from the District/school to you
  • Opportunities for engagement with your school community

It is important that we hear from a variety of diverse individuals. Your responses help to guide our planning for future academic and enrichment programs and help us to address areas where our programs need improvement. The results also help us to support successful initiatives and evaluate and improve those that are not as successful.

The parent/guardian survey takes about 14 minutes to complete, and can be accessed by visiting: www.smuhsd.org/panorama

You can take the survey in Spanish - simply select “Spanish” from the drop down menu at the top of the first page of the survey.

The parent/guardian survey closes on Friday, December 1, 2023. Thank you for taking the time to participate. Your thoughts can improve the future for your student and others.

HHS Community Closet, Garden and Peace Pantry - November

We are approaching the final months of 2023. The days are shorter and the weather is getting cooler. November often marks the month where we give thanks and reflect back on the year. In 2023:

  • Our Peace Pantry has been able to provide over 2,600 bags of cultural food items/essential items
  • We have been able to offer a summer stipend for a Peace Pantry Lead Position and a fall and spring stipend for a HHS Community Garden Lead.
  • We were able to purchase a 10X20 Tuff Shed and launch a Community Closet. @hhs_community_closet
  • We have been able to maintain and nurture a Community Garden that has produced 1,190 pounds of organic fruits and vegetables in 2023. @hhs_community_garden

We give thanks and gratitude:

  • For the incredible support from our Community Partners Each Green Corner, Carey School and Second Harvest Food Bank
  • To the Hillsdale Foundation and PTSO for their steadfast support of our Peace Pantry, Community Garden and Community Closet
  • For the 130 plus volunteers who have donated their time to volunteer at our Peace Pantry, Community Garden and Community Closet.

We hope that as you reflect back on 2023 you are able to feel good about the direct impact of your financial support on Hillsdale students and families. More than ever, schools are being asked to support students and families beyond the classroom. San Mateo County is one of the most unaffordable places to live in the United States and Hillsdale has evolved to try and meet the needs and challenges of students and families in our community.

We hope that as you look ahead to 2024 you consider our Holiday Giving Campaign this December 1st-31st so we can continue to offer support through our Hillsdale Peace Pantry, Community Closet and Community Garden.
