This has been a week of Winter Sports tryouts and Fall Sports wrapping up or heading to playoffs. Take a peek at this week's sports match-ups by scrolling below.
As we get further into November, it's a time to be thankful for all that we have and perhaps pay it forward...for the month of November, each week, we will be focusing on a specific item or two that we would love for you to donate to the HHS Community Closet. This week's focus is LAUNDRY DETERGENT and HOUSEHOLD CLEANING SUPPLIES. Sometimes the smallest acts of giving mean the most...the Community Garden, Peace Pantry, and Community Closet are always welcoming volunteers. We’re Stronger 💪Together – Make Your Gift to the Foundation Fund Today!
We’ve crunched the numbers, and we’re thrilled to announce that more than 200 Hillsdale families have contributed over $220,000 to the Foundation Fund since the start of the school year – what fantastic progress towards our $600,000 fundraising goal for 2023-2024! 🎊👏🥳
| |
While we’re asking that every family contribute $750 per student to the Foundation Fund this year, we’ve seen gifts of $10, $20, and $50 come in… and that’s amazing, because every gift we receive, in any amount, allows us to provide funding for Small Learning Communities, the College and Career Center, grants to Hillsdale’s fantastic Booster Groups, and so much more!
If you haven’t made your gift to the Foundation Fund, please do so today. You can donate online or through the mail, in one lump sum or in monthly installments. And, of course, don’t forget to check and see if your employer will match your gift!
Follow the Hillsdale High School Foundation on Instagram at @hillsdalehsfoundation!
***Hi folks, quick request from the Foundation team: if you made a gift to the Foundation in July, August, or September, but you have NOT received an acknowledgement email from us, can you please ping execdirector@hillsdalehsfoundation.org? Thank you!***

HHS Community Closet, Garden and Peace Pantry - November
We are approaching the final months of 2023. The days are shorter and the weather is getting cooler. November often marks the month where we give thanks and reflect back on the year.
In 2023, Hillsdale would like to look back and offer gratitude for you and our Hillsdale Community for donating close to $90,000 last December in our Annual Hillsdale Holiday Giving Campaign. It has made 2023 a year where Hillsdale families and students felt the support and impact of your donations. Thank You! Thanks to your donations:
- Our Peace Pantry has been able to provide over 2,600 bags of cultural food items/essential items from Mi Rancho Market for families enrolled in our Peace Pantry which supplements the groceries from Second Harvest Food Bank. The total cost for our Mi Rancho Care Bags totals over $65,000.
- We have been able to offer a summer stipend for a Peace Pantry Lead Position and a fall and spring stipend for a HHS Community Garden Lead. The total cost for these critical lead positions is $7,500.
- We were able to purchase a 10X20 Tuff Shed and launch a Community Closet. We have been able to support 130 HHS families with Back To School Clothing, HHS Gear, Winter Coats, Homecoming/Prom Clothing, Shoes and essential items. The Total Cost of launching our Community Closet was $10,000. @hhs_community_closet
- We have been able to maintain and nurture a Community Garden that has produced 1,190 pounds of organic fruits and vegetables (as of 10/27/23) in 2023. In addition, we have added a Pedestrian Gate and will extend our six foot fence to add additional raised beds and fruit trees. Our Annual Community Garden Budget is $10,000. @hhs_community_garden
We also offer our thanks and gratitude:
- For the incredible support from our Community Partners Each Green Corner, Carey School and Second Harvest Food Bank.
- To the Hillsdale Foundation and PTSO for their steadfast support of our Peace Pantry, Community Garden and Community Closet
- For the 130 plus volunteers who have donated their time to volunteer at our Peace Pantry, Community Garden and Community Closet. We average close to 40 volunteers weekly working in our garden, closet or Peace Pantry. Without the support of our volunteers there is no way can support Hillsdale Families struggling with food insecurity and the high cost of living in San Mateo.
We hope that as you reflect back on 2023 you are able to feel good about the direct impact of your financial support on Hillsdale students and families. More than ever, schools are being asked to support students and families beyond the classroom. San Mateo County is one of the most unaffordable places to live in the United States and Hillsdale has evolved to try and meet the needs and challenges of students and families in our community.
We hope that as you look ahead to 2024 you consider our Holiday Giving Campaign this December 1st-31st so we can continue to offer support through our Hillsdale Peace Pantry, Community Closet and Community Garden.
