A Closer Look at 2019
Our 2019 Annual Report is hot off the press and you can read more here . The report features data and stories like this one: “Rowena” was 66 years old,on disability, and taking care of her two young grandchildren. She had been struggling for more than a year and finally ran out of things she could sell to make extra money. When it came down to paying rent or buying groceries for the family, she heard about FISH. She says ‘FISH is one of the finest, most caring organizations I have ever seen. They give you help and hope for tomorrow !’ Did you know that FISH helped nearly 7,100 unduplicated people like Rowena and distributed close to 1.1 million pounds of food last year? Thank you again to our donors, volunteers, and dedicated staff for making this possible!
Re-FUND Colorado to Support FISH
Did you know that you can donate part (or all!) of your state tax refund to eligible nonprofits like FISH? Just write in the name of the nonprofit of your choice and the state does the rest of the work. They’ll send as much of your refund as you want directly to the organization. As you’re filling out your taxes this year, please consider donating any part of your tax refund to FISH. To do this, you'll need to list "Community Services of Broomfield, dba Broomfield FISH" with our SOS registration number 20083007575. For every dollar donated to FISH, 92 cents directly supports those in need!
Youth Give Back Through In-Kind Projects
by Kate Lampo, YAB Co-President
Members of FISH's high school "Youth Advisory Board" give back to FISH through what they call in-kind projects. These projects are something that students take on individually or in small groups, and are designed to fill a need we see at FISH. From food drives to dine-out nights, from designing business cards to making a kids coloring book, in-kind projects can be quite different from student to student. My ongoing project allows King Soopers patrons to fundraise for FISH while they shop, at no extra cost to them. In the past year, this project raised more than $2,500! Spring Cleaning and Personal Care Kits
Many people don't realize that cleaning products and personal care items are not covered by federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. At FISH we often hear how grateful families are to find soap, shampoo, toothpaste, laundry detergent, and other cleaning items on our shelves. Throughout the next two months, we are encouraging groups to donate spring cleaning and personal care kits to FISH. If you, or a group of friends or coworkers, are able, please consider hosting a cleaning or personal care drive to make some of these kits! To learn more or find out other ways to support FISH families, please click here .
Volunteer Spotlight: John O'Toole
This month FISH would like to feature John O'Toole, who is an amazing ambassador for FISH in our community. He started volunteering with us 3 years ago, has been on our Board of Trustees, and even served as Board Chair. Although he will be finishing his board term in March of this year, we know we can count on him every Monday morning to help our truck driver Ed with grocery store pick-ups. He also volunteers at many of FISH’s community events like Broomfield Days and National Night Out. Thank you for your compassion and dedication, John! !
