Shining a light

The Lampshade Poets got their start in Lyme in 2012. Then they shifted their performances to the WRJ store Lampscapes (thus their name). The wordsmiths include Janet Watton of Randolph Center, Pam Ahlen, Annie Bauer of Norwich, Bob Powell, Ina Anderson of Sharon, and Cassie Manero of White River. All rehearsed, and for TV cameras at JAM delivered their verse.

Rep Balint in WRJ

Becca Balint, VT's only Representative in Congress, spoke at White River's Bugbee Senior Center last week and answered questions. Her message? "Dysfunction [in Washington is] not acceptable....What has been increasingly difficult is to find folks who are acting in good faith. Extremists are more interested in getting us to hate each other."

World Peace Day 12/12

Can you spend four minutes for peace on December 12? That's the hope of Chris Richardson who filmed this piece in Norwich VT. At the same time on Dec. 12 people around the world will stop to focus on love and peace. What's the time for East Coast folks to stop and think for peace? 7:44 a.m. "Consciousness is the key to changing attitudes," says Richardson.

Prelude

Coming soon

In the spring of 1854 seventeen-year-old Adeline Elizabeth Hoe began to keep a daily diary. Filled with six months of the details of a young girl’s life, the diary offers a wonderful window into the mind of an educated young woman from a well-to-do family living in Lower Manhattan in the turbulent decade before the Civil War. Her meticulous record of the elegant music, dances and literature she and her sister enjoyed is juxtaposed with her matter-of-fact relation of epidemics and sudden deaths, conveying a vivid picture of mid-nineteenth-century life.

Plainfield, NH author Helen Davidson, a descendant of Adeline, transcribed the diary with her husband, Richard Davidson. Helen wrote the novel Prelude, while transcribing Adeline’s diary, re-imagining the life of this spirited young girl.

Davidson is bringing this beautiful novel to audio book format. Look for the release coming soon!
