The latest Hippodrome Theatre improvements were celebrated at a Gainesville Chamber of Commerce sponsored event

Approximately 40 people came out this past Wednesday to celebrate the completion of the Hippodrome’s cinema and restroom renovations. The event featured a viewing on the cinema's new movie screen and celebratory speeches given in the renovated cinema space. A ribbon was cut on the Hippodrome’s front steps.

Funded by the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax, cinema updates include new theatre seats, lighting, carpeting, paint, a new cinema screen, acoustic wall panels and much more. Additional upgrades to the first and second floor restrooms include new plumbing and fixtures, new partition walls, new mirrors and refinishing and replacement of the existing flooring.

Thank you to our neighbors in Alachua County for supporting the Wild Spaces & Public Places tax initiative which made the latest improvements to the Hippodrome possible.

These efforts go toward fulfilling the City Commission’s goal of having a world-class parks, recreation and cultural infrastructure.

The Wild Spaces & Public Places sales tax will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands. To sign up for updates, please visit our website.
