Fireworks at H&H!

Happy 4th of July! The fireworks are happening at His & Her Fitness! We had the annual 8 weeks photo shoot...the big reveal will be in 435 magazine in January but H&H clients will get a first look in our January newsletter!

With it being summer the schedules are starting to set in, keep enjoying the vitamin D and extra light we have outside. Rock that 20-30 minutes of creative cardio in a shaded park, your yard and of course the AC at H&H is always a great option! Staying hydrated is extremely important, I am loving a new water called Life Water.

If you are up later make sure to have an extra meal to keep that fat burn going. If your energy is low just have a nice little bag of almonds. Almonds are easy to have on a hot day in your car or purse and you only need about 15 to take care of that craving. All these little things matter when we are busy and in the hot summer months.

Christina's Kitchen
Golden Beets and Brussels Sprouts Recipe

2 medium sized golden beets
10 brussels sprouts
2 teaspoons salt
1 shallot, peeled and sliced
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 teaspoons fresh thyme, chopped
2 Tbsp almond slivers, toasted
Salt and freshly ground pepper

1) Boil or roast the beets. Boil in water in a small saucepan for 45 minutes. When done set the beets aside to cool for 10 minutes then peel and chop them into 1 x 1/2 inch chunks.

2) Toast the slivered almonds. While beets are cooking toast your almond slivers if you are starting with raw almonds. Just heat a skillet to medium high heat and put in the almonds. Stir frequently with a spatula. When the almonds begin to brown, remove from pan into a small bowl. Let cool, set aside.

3) Blanch the brussels sprouts. Also while the beets are cooking prepare the brussels sprouts. Bring 1 1/2 quarts of salted water (2 teaspoons salt) in a medium saucepan to a boil. Add the brussels sprouts to the water and blanch the for 2-3 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking. Set aside.

4) Cook the shallots, add beets and brussels sprouts. In a medium sized skillet heat 1 Tbsp olive oil on medium heat. Add the shallot slices and cook until translucent, a few minutes. Add another tablespoon of olive oil and raise the heat to medium heat. Add the sprouts and beets to the pan, along with the thyme and mix well. Salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring. Remove from heat and serve. Can serve warm or at room temperature.

Enjoy!

James Hailey

I started training at His & Her Fitness in November of 2017. I have always been active but in recent years (being focused on growing and managing my company), I was only active on the weekends every now and then. So one day I found myself spending the night in the hospital and then having a long discussion with my doctor about my health, where he emphasized the concept of not dying from doing nothing to take care of my physical health.

Fast forward to today, with the help of the trainers at H & H I have lost weight, improved my strength, improved my endurance and I can touch my toes for the first time in at least 30 years. As a CEO I am a habitual goal setter, Christina uses goal setting to motivate me and hold me accountable. Christina also has taught me the importance of the food I eat, having always thought good fitness was just working out I never ever thought about what I was eating. I am now enjoying and attacking my favorite sports of snow skiing, wakeboarding and mountain biking.

Where has the summer gone?! It's hard to believe July is half over and we're staring fall directly in the face. At H&H, this summer has been hot, hot, HOT!

It's been so awesome to see our moms and dads bringing their littles into the studio during workouts this summer. As trainers, we pride ourselves on making H&H a family friendly environment where parents can begin to teach their children about what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's bringing the small ones into watch mom or dad workout, putting those pre-teens through creative cardio while mom or dad works out, or getting the teens into lifting alongside mom or dad, every trip to the gym can be a positive and educational experience for your child. Remember, children will emulate your behavior and habits. So why not help your child to build a lifestyle that promotes health, self confidence and makes being fit the norm, as well as FUN! Bring your kiddos in to the studio for a fun-filled fitness experience where everyone is part of our fitness family!

AND.....if you've experienced hectic summer schedules with sports and travel, we want to get you REFOCUSED going into the fall! Get with your trainer to re-establish those healthy habits and a workout schedule that is going to leave you feeling fit and fabulous for the holidays!!
