March Madness!

I love this game. We have 3 teams the gym associates Monica, Ethan, Josh, Micheal and Jonam setting goals for those that are gym members. Purple team personal trainers Monica and I and the Black Team which is Bryan and Jonam. It's our job as personal training fitness professionals to set the next level standard for all clients here, and it is super fun when the original clients of His & Her Fitness take it up a notch with the fresh clients that are inspired by you. It is a honor as the owner of H&H to see the fun energy at a time where many are taking breaks, the H&H family is taking it up a notch. I hear all through the gym industry that trainers have a tough time motivating clients, I feel at H&H our secret is we work as a team, as a trainer I want even Bryan and Jonam's clients to rock their 3 goals as well. It's March Madness because it is so hard to go next level without the energy of the trainers and peers wanting to go that level with you. In 17 years of personal training I have yet to meet anyone that does not want to be healthy, it's our job as trainers to figure out why there can be trends in heading down old paths and how to prevent old habits from coming back. With doing March Madness since the day I have opened H&H 15 years ago this August I can look back at my clients folders and see this was the time of year that the commitment helped break habits that kept people from going to that unhealthy place. It's what causes us unnecessary stress that can be the game changer. THIS IS THE MONTH WE TAKE STRESS AWAY that we can stop with the mindset of I am on a team that needs me to have all 3 points each week, not just one or two but all 3 for the win. FREE throws win games. Thank you everyone for setting these goals GO PURPLE HEHE! For real everyone let's do our best and have those goals reached.

Christina's Kitchen
Mexican Quinoa

2 red vine tomatoes
2 red peppers
1/2 onion
1 jalapeno
4 leaves of fresh basil
2 teaspoons of cumin
2 teaspoons of garlic powder

In blender
Add all of the above but red peppers, dice or slice them!


One can of black beans
One cup of quinoa
Chicken or turkey burger

Make one cup of dry quinoa as directed
Once fully cooked

Serve with: 
1/2 cup quinoa
Sauce
1/4 cup black beans
3 oz of chicken or ground turkey burger

H&H has trainers starting as early as 3:30am and as late as 8:00pm! We are here to serve you. The trainers work as a team so when you need a different day or time we adapt with using each other to help...or if a trainer has a day off another trainer will keep you rolling at your time.

Monday - Friday 6:00am-8:00pm
Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm
Sunday 8:00am-12:00pm

In early December of 2018, after years of contemplation, yes...years,  I finally decided to take action and walked into His and Her Fitness where I had the pleasure of meeting with Christina Larson. I shared with Christina that I had set a personal goal and really wanted to challenge myself.  My goal, was to finally take action and join His and Her Fitness. This goal was extra special for me, as it was also meant be a birthday gift to myself. I had a "big" birthday coming up and I wanted to give myself the gift of health and wellness.  So on my actual birthday, last December, I met with Christina for my very first training session and it has been life changing!

Mind, body, spirit, commitment and balance,  These words come to mind when I reflect on my past three months at His and Her Fitness.  These words also describe the organization and staff.

I truly look forward to my one-on-one training sessions and have also incorporated creative cardio into my weekly routine. I'm happy to share, my numbers (weight, BMI, etc.) have dropped  and my energy, self-confidence and overall well being are at an all time high!  Most recently, my teenage son Matthew has just started to train at His and Her Fitness and I'm confident my husband Scott will join us in the not-too-distant future.

Looking back, it's hard to believe that it took me so long to finally make a commitment to become a member of this fun, energetic and nurturing "family."  I would encourage anyone who may be "on the fence" like I was, to not take years to make a commitment to your health and well being. Instead, do it now and maybe even give yourselves or a friend a birthday gift like I did.

To Christina, Monica, Bryan and Joe, I am honored to be chosen as the His and Her Fitness Client of the Month for March 2019. The knowledge, professionalism, energy and attitude of the entire team, as well as other clients is tremendous.

Not only did you ALL make me feel good about taking the first step toward fitness, you continue to encourage me every step of the way. With gratitude...

From a professional and personal aspect, determination, focus, and empathy best describes personal trainer Joe. Let's first start with determination. A native from Africa, it took determination to follow, this "thing" called life and start anew. Imagine, leaving your native home to then enter the unknown. It has required me to learn a new culture, understand various perspectives, and know what it means to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. This journey required determination. Determination is defined as a firmness of purpose or resolute. Often, I found myself defining and redefining my purpose. The constant that continues to define and mold my life is health, wellness, and family.
Find your purpose or what you enjoy and don't look back. Will you get off track? Of course. Will you sometimes fail? Heck, yes. I did many times. Don't lose focus, failure builds character and getting off track requires one to explore and learn more about your journey. This is all a part of understanding your best self.
Your best self requires empathy. Empathy is something that pushes my desire to work with people. My goal is to truly help individuals accomplish their personal health and fitness goals but that cannot be accomplished without empathy. Understanding self has facilitated my behavior for empathy. The characteristic of empathy requires one to look at self. It required me to better understand how I treat myself, my family, my friends, and my clients. Empathy can be medicinal. Remember..."People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." (Maya Angelou)
Thank you for allowing me to provide a glimpse of who I am. Here is a little more about me and my credentials (below), however never forget your determination, this will define your journey. Your focus, this will guide your path, and your empathy, this will allow you to positively take people with you.
My Credentials, Jonam Edward (Joe), American Council on Exercise (ACE), Certified, Personal Trainer, has over 10 years of national and international experience in the fitness industry. Joe focuses on the mind-body persona and building rapport through personal motivation, body maintenance, body progression, and body physique. Resistance training and programming also encompasses his implemented technique and principles. Specializing in Muay Thai boxing, calisthenics, circuit training, and body building; Joe, ACE Certified, demonstrates the mind-body persona through these various strategies.
