Fall is here!

It's fall but you don't have to fall off your goals! Historically the last 17 years of training this is a time of year I see proactive people go to the next level. The holidays are only hard if you have no plan, this year before you fall into the same holiday traps just chat a few minutes with your trainer about wants, needs and where you want to be. The average person gains 15-20 lbs over the holidays. Let's set a goal of gaining no more then 5 lbs. I know with the team of trainers the inspiration is there as well as the hearts that care. If you have changes in your schedule just text the week before and let's make sure you have the plan and get it in! I'm proud of so many of you this last month making sure you worked around meetings and appointments and trusting the team. Have a blessed end of year. Cheers to 15 years of being fat killers!

Eating for life cook book: Enchilada Soup with Avocado

Turn the chunks of chicken in a flavorful soup, topped with cheddar cheese, avocado and crisp tortilla strips.

Serving: 8
Preparation time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

1 TBSP olive oil
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 TBSP cilantro, chopped
8 corn tortillas, divided
8 portions chicken breast (about two lbs)
1 can (15oz) puréed tomatoes
2 onions, finely chopped
6 cups fat-free, reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 cups water
1 can (6oz) tomato paste
1 tbsp ground cumin
2 tsp chili powder
2 bay leaves
Ground red pepper, to taste
3/4 cup reduced-fat cheddar cheese, shredded
1 avocado, peeled, pitted and diced

                          Tasteful Tip
You'll notice that the recipe makes eight servings. That's because it is such a great "planned- over". Extra servings of the enchilada soup can be frozen and stored for up to two months.

                                Directions
1) Warm olive oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add garlic and cilantro; sauté for three minutes. Chop 4 all of the tortillas into approximately 1 inch squares and I had to pot; sauté until softened, about five minutes.

2) While tortillas are cooking, sliced chicken into bit size pieces. Add chicken, puréed tomatoes, onions, chicken broth, water, tomato paste, cumin, chili powder and bay leaves; bring to a boil over high heat.

3) Reduce heat to low, add ground red pepper and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4) While the soup is simmering, preheat your oven to 400°F. Using scissors, cut the remaining tortillas into approximately 1/4 inch wide strips, and place on baking sheet in a single layer. Bake until lightly browned, about 7 minutes. (They will crisp as they cool.)

5) after the soup has simmered for 30 minutes, remove the bay leaves. Then ladle portion (about 1 1/2 cups) of soup into each bowl and top with the shredded cheese, diced avocado and tortilla strips. Serve and enjoy!

Client of the Month

It's always an honor and a privilege to be chosen as "client of hte month". His & Her Fitness has been my home away from home since 2008 when I first began my fitness journey and now for years I have started my day there, workout first and then my Americano.

Goals have evolved throughout the years but weights, cardio and nutrition are always a staple. The doors are always open and when you enter, you are greeted by the trainers who take a personal interest in all the clients. It takes determination, dedication and consistency over time to make your journey to your best life ever. The encouragement from the staff is priceless. The past year some of my favorite memories at H&H have been participating in the JCC triathlon with Christina and several other clients, my brother, Dennis, visiting me and joining me for a workout, stadium workout with Christina, Friday workouts with the trainers, Fluff Your Pup and now coming up the annual holiday party/silent auction. In my opinion, life is just better with His & Her Fitness. There is no substitute for health and wellness at any age and His & Her Fitness sets the bar high for all of us!

Motivation: the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. What motivates you??? For me when I was younger it was to get 1st place. I remember the big shiny trophies we would get in both softball and basketball. I loved collecting them in my bedroom and displaying them all. As I got older it was about doing well for my team and winning a championship for them, together. As an adult it became about pushing myself to be the very best that I could be and leaving nothing to chance... but then when I became a mom, everything changed and it became about being an example for my daughter, Maci Ann, and inspiring her. As you can see, it changes as we change. It doesn't always have to be someone else that motivates you... maybe its an event you want to look good for, or that dream vacation, or it might even be you just wanting to be able to lift a certain weight. You want to find what motivates you, so you can work to be the best that you can be. I personally hope that each one of us here at His & Her Fitness motivate you to live a healthy lifestyle and be the best YOU that YOU can possibly be. Having each and every client living a healthy lifestyle and inspiring others is what motivates us to be the best trainers that we can be. Maybe your lacking motivation, that's okay, that's what we are here for. I would love to meet with you and together we can come up with a plan to reach your fitness goals. Lets motivate one another and CRUSH it together.
