8 weeks reveal coming soon!

It's so exciting #8weeks_to_greatness is finished up! The reveal will be in the January issue of 435 mag and on our website just before the magazine is released. Here is the blog, check it out to see if you ever had these feelings or if someone you know would be inspired by the weekly stories HERE

This next month, August, is our 15th year in business! Thank you past and present clients, we could not be here with you. Do you know that 40% of the clients that come in the door are inspired by #8weeks_to_greatness? Success does not come without putting out the truth. "If being healthy was easy everyone would do it!"

I am pretty pumped about some features in regional and national magazine publications recently and coming up. This month there is a three page feature in Muscle & Fitness UK, another one coming in August. I'm also featured as Trainer of the Year by 435 Magazine. It's been an honor to be a personal trainer for 17 years and I love love love to continue to serve in Leawood and south Johnson County! We are proud to serve KC professionals, significant others, grandparents, kiddos, and retired professionals. We started with just 1669 square feet and have busted out two walls and now have over 7,000 square feet of training and massage space. It's not been easy but no business owner could do it without the support of the clients and community as a whole. I feel so blessed to have a high functioning team that is amazing with changes. The knowledge and experience we have as a team at His & Her Fitness keeps individuals into a healthy practice of lifting, meal plans, and creative cardio that is a specific to the individual. We continue to keep our focus on "Helping one person at a time live a healthy life".

When I started on this journey I was hesitant, my wife talked me into it. After the first twelve weeks I was getting into it. Someone once said, "just keep moving, don't give up". So far, I think I have lost 45 lbs and I am feeling good. I am hoping to get below 180 lbs...11 more lbs to go! Even then I hope to lose more.

I have been able to stay an active fly fisherman for 40 years now. When I first got started I thought it would be fun to restore old bamboo fly rods. My first project was an old Horocks Ibason fly rod, it was in pretty bad condition. After rehabbing several other rods, I wanted to learn how to build one. In 1999 I took a course in Cotter, Arkansas. The class was a week long. By the end of the course I had finished, but I had cuts on every finger of both hands. To date I have built a total of ten fly rods. I have never caught anything big. I think the largest was 26 inches. There is a lot of wading in fly fishing, and in heavy currents. Once while fly fishing the tail waters of Bull Shoals Lake I stumbled and fell. Since I was below the dam I knew they could start releasing water at anytime. I tried to get up but couldn't. I had to crawl over to the bank & use a boulder to get up. That's when I knew I needed to get in better shape. It was another few years before I finally started going to His & Her Fitness.

His & Her Fitness has been great and I really appreciate the new lifestyle. THANKS!

As a kid I thought life was "Hakuna Mata" (no worries, Swahili translation), it was all about rainbows and sunshine! As I continued to mature, I learned to continue to learn how to be an adult...a man. Lesson one is just plain ol' experience. Life is the best teacher, one learns many lessons in life, good and bad.

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11

In life, for every action there is a reaction that results in consequences, again good or bad. This mentality also fairs well with your health "mwendo" (journey, Swahili translation). The effort you put into your journey are the results that you will receive. Focus on your "mwendo." What you give is what you get, you are responsible for your results.

Here's a tip: Prioritize. One of the choices that I prioritize on my to-do list is daily exercise. It is very important for me to LEAD by EXAMPLE. My clients depend on me and if I don't properly prioritize self through health, I can't give 100% to my clientele or properly teach healthy habits. So, I choose healthy, do you? What are your priorities?
