HisNibs.com update Going back to my modeling career
April 19th, 2018

Lost 100 lbs

I don't usually devote this space to personal revelations, but I'm happy to have recently achieved a personal goal of losing a significant amount of weight -- and perhaps that will serve as an inspiration to someone else.

I took the slow and steady approach -- which took years actually, with ups, downs and stalls. Basically, it involved tweaks to my diet, such as food selection, portion size, trying not to eat within 3 hours of going to bed, and going to the gym 2-3 times per week. Nothing earth-shaking, but if you become consistent in your habit-changes -- it can be done!

This was an interim, not final, goal...but look for me at a fashion runway near you.

Back to pens! With the success of the inexpensive Monza model from Monteverde, I'm excited to introduce a calligraphy set version of the Crystal Clear demonstrator, which comes with three calligraphy nibs included -- 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm sizes. You can see a video about them on the Monza page or the home page.

The other pen profiled is the Monteverde Invincia Brass -- which is not terribly new, but new to me (I had to wait almost 3 months to receive my backorder for both the Invincia and the Monza).

The Invincia has been Monteverde's flagship model for at least 15 years, and looks really terrific in the brass version.

News alert!!!! It's not Halloween!!!! However, I just discovered that I have a supply of the Skeleton catch-alls that I had thought were sold-out. Does terror really have a time of year?

Also, while I'm thinking about it, all orders for the Forever Cuban writing instruments must be in before the end of the month -- before they're 'Forever' gone -- as explained in the last newsletter.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR OTHER ONLINE BUSINESSES: Subject: FTC Attorney Chip Cooper Trains on Compliance Today

I've been a member of FTC Guardian for several years, and a lot of changes are coming up -- most especially on May 15th -- when European GDPR Internet compliance starts. If you're an internet business and don't even know what that means -- then you have to attend the free online seminar with Chip this afternoon at 3:00 PM EST.

All the details are down below.

NOTE: You may have noticed in recent months that the prices listed on HisNibs.com already reflect the 20% discount. For instance, the new Monza retails for $20.00, but is shown as $16.00 on my website. I've removed the old system of crossed-through retail prices due to the Federal Trade Commission cracking down on the whole idea of 'suggested retail price', when no one ever sells an item for that amount anyway!

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers, please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as soon as possible!

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE: Every nib that ships from His Nibs is closely examined under high magnification and tuned or adjusted if needed. About 85% of modern nibs need some adjustment out-of-the-box from the manufacturer for an optimal writing experience. Most commonly, the tines of the nib are misaligned -- which would cause scratchiness at the minimum; the slit between the tines is partially or fully closed -- which would starve the nib of ink and at best cause skipping; or the slit between the tines is too wide -- which will either again cause skipping, or conversely, flooding. There are other factors -- such as separation of the nib from the feed -- that are inspected and repaired before any pen leaves the Palace. The only 100% guarantee of course comes when the pen is actually filled with ink and written with for the first time, but our pre-shipping inspections and tunings have eliminated 99.99999 (my finger is getting tired) of the frustrations that a customer experiences when first using a new fountain pen. Although this can be time-consuming on occasion, it affords our customers a much more pleasant experience when receiving a fountain pen from His Nibs -- and saves us the frustration of dealing with returns!

  • Invincia in Brass

Straightforward and classic, the clean lines and familiar shape of Invincia are brought to new heights with this solid brass collection. Matte black trim contrasts the natural brass for a modern look that is earthy and bold. Natural flaws in the brass enhance the pen's character while a protective coating is added to minimize oxidation, insuring Invincia will only get better with age.

Picasso Peace Dove Pair Random 2

Can you think of a more perfect place to lay to rest your assorted pocket items, as night falls -- than this peaceful -- though occupied -- coffin? Made of high-quality resin, it measures 8-1/2" by 4-1/2" by 2-1/2" -- and weighs a sturdy 1 lb. It's handy whether placed on a bookshelf, dresser or desktop (paperclips anyone?).

Forever Cuban -- last chance to order!
Crocodile Big Croc Clip Group Random 2

As mentioned in the last newsletter, the company that produces the Cuban Forever writing instrument (it will write 'forever', without refilling) has changed hands. Consequently, my supplier YAFA will no longer be carrying the line.

So, even if a particular wood finish is sold out on HisNibs, I'm told that I can still order them before the end of the month -- while their supplies last.

Subject: FTC Attorney Chip Cooper Trains on Compliance Today

There's not a lot of time, so I'll be very blunt...

If you sell anything online you may be in danger of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) shutting you down and freezing your bank accounts.

I actually know three people it happened to... It's not pretty.

That's why it's imperative that you attend tomorrow's free training, at 3:00 - 4:00 PM EST, with my friend and attorney Chip Cooper.

    Sign up here

As a business owner myself, I understand the massive power that the U.S. government wields. And believe me you don't want them coming down on you.

Fortunately, getting and staying compliant with the FTC is not difficult but it does require you to educate yourself.

Even if it requires you moving your schedule around for tomorrow afternoon so you can attend - I would strongly encourage you to do that...

    Go here

Why? Because Chip will be answering your questions live on this call too and if you're not there you won't be able to ask your questions.

    One other thing...

Getting compliant has another benefit... it'll give you confidence which will make it easier for you to succeed in your business AND sleep well at night knowing that what you're doing is copacetic.

The place to be this afternoon

PS Remember: Chip has agreed to hangout and answer YOUR questions live after his presentation! He's even giving away his latest book on FTC compliance -- free -- for attending the webinar live!
