Hispanic Heritage month takes place September 15th through October 15th, celebrating the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic-Americans.
September 15th-18th celebrates the anniversary of Independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile.
I can't imagine living without the rich and colorful influence of Latin culture in my life. Remembering that the territorial change from Mexico to The United States in 1848 includes present-day California, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and parts of Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming, it's impossible to separate the Hispanic influence from a large part of
the United States.
The sculpture pictured above honors the workers who rebuilt
New Orleans after the flooding from Hurricane Katrina. It is on the Mississippi River at Crescent Park entitled Monument to the Latin American Workers 2018, by Franco Alessandrini.
Hispanic Americans have been integral to the prosperity of the United States, influencing food, music, politics, culture, art and infrastructure. Their contributions to this nation are immeasurable.
The theme for Hispanic Heritage Month this year is
Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America.
May we all embrace this month of celebration.
Feliz Día de la Independencia!
