ASTORIA, OR: Astoria Parks and Recreation is partnering with statewide non-profitSOLVE, and the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries for a statewide cemetery clean-up day on May 12th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
The event will be the first ever, statewide historic cemetery clean-up with the goal of
bringing as many volunteers out to as many cemeteries across Oregon as possible.
"Encouraging environmental stewardship amongst our citizens is an important part of
our mission at Parks and Recreation. Oceanview Cemetery, along with being an
important habitat to maintain for local wildlife, it is an important location with historic
significance for the County. " Says Angela Cosby, Director of Astoria Parks and Recreation.
Volunteers will help pick up litter, pull invasive weeds, trim around headstones, and
prune shrubs. Volunteers are advised to wear work boots, long pants, and sunscreen.
Astoria Parks staff will provide tools, work gloves, snacks, and water.
