Dear Academy Community,

It is with great excitement and sincere gratitude that I announce a gift of $3 million to Saint Edmond’s Academy, generously donated by the Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Foundation. Rocco and Mary Abessinio have close ties to the Academy, having had one son and five grandchildren attend the school.

This donation is the largest unrestricted cash gift in the Academy's history. In recognition of the gift, the school will name its campus after the Abessinio Family. The funds will enhance the school's mission through strategic capital improvements and innovative programs, ensuring the legacy of Saint Edmond's Academy will endure.

“Our hope is that this gift will enable Saint Edmond’s Academy to continue their mission of educating the hearts and minds of young men in a community of faith,” said Rocco Abessinio.

On behalf of the entire Saint Edmond’s Academy community, I want to publicly thank the Abessinio Family for their incredible generosity and support of the school. Rocco Abessinio found tremendous success in life through hard work, commitment to family, and faith in God. Rocco and Mary sent all of their children to Catholic school and their generosity will allow Saint Edmond’s Academy to continue to Build Boys of Character in a Community of Faith for generations to come.

The Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Foundation was established in 2001. Under their leadership, the foundation has funded various organizations that positively impact the community. Mr. Abessinio is the Founder and CEO of Applied Bank, a full-service personal and commercial bank headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. He also founded Roch Capital, which owns hotels and various commercial office buildings throughout the United States.

The son of Italian immigrants, Mr. Abessinio grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. He is a proud graduate of Salesianum School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Neumann University. In addition to his work with Applied Bank and its related entities, Mr. Abessinio, a noted philanthropist, has helped fund healthcare, educational and religious initiatives at various institutions. Notably, the Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington, DE, the founding of St. Rocco’s parish in Avondale, PA, the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Power Plant in Boca Raton, FL, and most recently, the Beebe Healthcare Abessinio Health Campus in Rehoboth Beach, DE. He and his wife currently reside in Boca Raton, FL.

Sincerely,
