Miami’s Once “Colored Only Beach”.

Learn the Story That Began in 1945

Welcome to Paradise Renewed!!

Established on August 1, 1945 as Miami’s ‘Colored Only Beach’ immediately became a spot for social gatherings to tourists and residents who made trips to enjoy amenities such as the carousel, the dancing pavilion or the mini-train that would run through the enormous park.
Now, characterized by a unique and precious natural environment, the City of Miami’s largest recreational jewel serves as the ultimate recreational location for those who want to bask in the splendor of the sun and ocean.

Museum Corner: Executive Director Athalie Edwards Wishes Everyone A Happy Thanksgiving!

As we gather with our loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to express my deep gratitude for your unwavering support and commitment to preserving the rich history and heritage of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. This historic landmark stands as a symbol of unity and resilience, a testament to the enduring spirit of our community.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the importance of community, and it is your dedication, hard work, and passion that have allowed us to transform a once-segregated beach into a place of inclusion, cultural celebration, and environmental stewardship.

Your contributions are invaluable, and they ensure that this remarkable place remains a source of inspiration and education for generations to come. On this day of gratitude and togetherness, may your Thanksgiving be filled with love and cherished moments, reminding us of the strength that comes from a united community.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to our incredible collaborators in 2023. Your innovative spirit, dedication to sustainability, and commitment to diversity have not only made our mission more impactful but have also filled this year with gratitude and a true sense of thanksgiving. HVKBP's Education Dept. Launches Local Heroes Program at St. Agnes Academy

On November 13th the HVKBP's Education Department launched its Local Heroes Program with St. Agnes Academy's Fall celebration at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. This Program is designed to introduce younger students to Miami's local heroes, such as Athalie Range, Dr. Enid Pinkney, The Honorable Judge Lawson Thomas, Dana Dorsey and the impact they had on our city. We often learn about national influential figures in the black community but rarely are taught about our Local Heroes.

Let's inspire future generations together!
