9 am - noon

at Hamilton Park UMC in Dallas

Texas ranks 49th in the nation for women’s health and thirty percent of women here receive no prenatal care in the first trimester. Why do women of color and their infants experience a disproportionately high risk of avoidable deaths? Experts will help us understand the reality of this preventable tragedy along with the policy and cultural barriers responsible. Together we’ll discuss how we can be a force for change. Help us spread the word and invite your friends and colleagues - we're presenting this for entire community! All are welcome and child care is available with registration.

Featuring experts:

• Dr. Kyrah Brown, Health Equity & Community Psychologist

• Dr. Kristen Priddy, PhD, RN, CNS

Texas State Representative Toni Rose • Bee Moorhead, Exec. Director, Texas Impact • Displays with many resources and care-giving nonprofits

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Clara Ester

CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY

No matter your heritage, culture or racial background, Black history is for everyone. How will you celebrate this year? Besides attending the Racial Justice Symposium (above) on February 24th, of course!

Try learning about lesser known historical Black figures, and there are many in the Methodist Church. Clara Ester has had a lifelong dedication to social justice. She is a United Methodist Deaconess, an Exec Director of a Wesley Center and served as national vice-president of United Methodist Women. She changed a lot of lives with her love. Click on her picture for more of her story.

FUN FACTS TO KNOW & TELL

UWFaith Fun Facts

WHAT DO WE CALL OURSELVES?

We used to call ourselves "UMW" and it rolled off our tongues so easily. We're encouraged to say our full new name, United Women in Faith. CEO Sally Vonner suggested we use "UWFaith" if we really need to abbreviate our name in speech or text. It has a little more personality than just 3 letters. We like it! Give it a try - you'll get used to it!

SEND US YOUR QUESTIONS and we'll share the answer in future editions.
