The Small Business Administration is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Small Business Week Awards. National award categories include Small Business Person of the Year, 8(a) Graduate of the Year, and VA-Richmond Small Business Exporter of the Year, with additional local award categories. Nominations are open through December 8, 2025.

1099 Filing Season is Fast Approaching!
Now is the time to make sure you have up to date W9 Forms for all your contractors. Ideally, you should obtain a W9 Form from each contractor your business employs prior to paying them the first time. Do not try to predict whether you will exceed the $600/year threshold for a contractor beforehand. At 1099 filing time, you will not provide a 1099 for any contractor to which you did not pay greater than an aggregate $600. Do not wait until January to obtain this information from contractors who may or may not be motivated to be tax compliant. Compliance is on the employing company, not on the contractor, so avoid getting caught in this situation and putting your company at risk for penalties and interest from the IRS.
