HOCKEY CANADA CANCELS THREE FALL EVENTS, INCLUDING NATIONAL WOMEN’S UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP
For Immediate Release
September 27, 2021

Saanichton, B.C. – Hockey Canada announced today that three fall events, the 2021 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, the 2021 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup and the World Junior A Challenge, have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Hockey Canada cancelled the three events to ensure the health and safety of the participants and the communities where each event was scheduled to take place. Dawson Creek, B.C. was slated to host the National Women’s Under-18 Championship from October 31 through November 6.

“We are disappointed for the athletes, coaches and officials who will all miss out on this national event,” said Fred Zweep, BC Hockey’s Program of Excellence, Commissioner. “We want to thank the Dawson Creek host committee for the enormous amount of time and effort they put in on the planning of National Women’s Under-18 Championship. For the athletes and coaches of the Female U-18 Program of Excellence, we will explore options for moving ahead and perhaps an alternative competition opportunity.”
