After more than 23 years without a hockey team, Northern Nevada is getting one. And it's due to having the state-of-art ice rink in south Reno.
The NorCal Ice Raiders, a semipro, Senior A team, is moving to Northern Nevada to become the Reno Ice Raiders and will play at the Reno Ice Arena - The Jennifer M. O'Neal Community Ice Arena, starting this fall.
Jess Peterson, general manager of the team, said The Reno Ice Raiders roster includes many former college and minor league players, and will have at least five local players, including Reed graduate Mickey Lang, 34, who played college and minor league hockey. He is thrilled to have a local hockey team.
