What is Evasive Skating?

Evasive skating is a tactical game situation skill. A skater seeks to evade, protect and keep the puck away from his or her opponents – to maintain possession of the puck, to make a play and to ultimately generate a scoring chance or a goal.

A player often skates one way, fakes and then goes the other way. It’s deception with the puck. By performing effective evasive skating skills a player will limit his or her giveaways and turnovers in the game.

However, in order to accomplish evasive skating in a game a player requires strong technical skating and puck control skills. Technical skating consists of forward and backward:

  • balance
  • edge control
  • starting, stopping
  • striding
  • tight turns
  • crossovers / crossunders
  • pivots
  • progressions to agility and mobility

This is the fundamentals of skating.

What Makes a Champion?
Most athletes who play a sport will dream of becoming a champion. But very few have the supreme skills and mental toughness traits required to achieve championship success.

We believe the 5 components of a champion athlete are:

  • Elite skills & supreme confidence in those skills

  • Profound sense of dissatisfaction with their own accomplishments

  • Any goal attained immediately becomes the next step toward a greater more "unreachable" goal

  • Ability to peak their performance, to get themselves up for major events

  • Ability to put their opponents away - killer instinct!

Claire Czerwony &
Gabe Czerwony
For the first time in
Tucker Hockey history, we have awarded 2 awards in one quarter for the Danny Cammack Award!

Claire Czerwony
Claire has been playing hockey for the past 4 years. Initially, she wanted to be a figure skater, but after watching her little brother at his hockey introduction course she knew hockey was her calling!

She comments that one thing that Coach Rex told her that really stuck is "Girls got Grit". Claire reminds herself of this everyday and it is something that I play by.

Coach Rex comments that Claire has a great attitude and to always keep the desire to learn and get better.
Gabe Czerwony
The love of hockey started for Gabe when he was 7. He notes that he likes that when you’re playing hockey you will never feel alone because you and your team have done so much tougher and achieved many great things. For Gabe, hockey is an experience that nothing else can replicate; it has it all, the teamwork, the challenge, and the exhilaration!

Coach Rex looks forward to seeing Gabe at our Spring 3 on 3 program and encourages Gabe to keep working hard and enjoying the game.
Congratulations to both Claire and Gabe on being awarded the Winter 2022 Danny Cammack Memorial Award! We look forward to seeing you at the rink in 2022!
A Gift from Brody

Brody, a past participant of Tucker Hockey, is generously paying forward a free Tucker Hockey program to a deserving player.

The program was awarded to Brody a year ago through our Danny Cammack Memorial Award, but Brody's family has since relocated and have decided to pay the free program forward.

We will be accepting nominations for this free program until Friday, April 15, 2022. You can nominate yourself, your child or someone you know by emailing programs@tuckerhockey.com

The selected player will be contacted no later than Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
