Winners Announced for 2022 Land & Water Conservation Awareness Poster Contest
|
Every year, 6th and 7th grade art students at James Williams Middle School partake in the annual Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Poster Contest. This year's theme was Healthy Soil, Healthy Life. Students brainstormed ideas on what images could be used to help them draw out this theme. Work started on a 12"x18" sheet of tag board. Central Elementary Science Fair
|
More than 25 students from Central Elementary School recently participated in this year’s annual science fair. Families worked on their projects outside of school and displayed them in the gym on the evening of Thursday, March 10. Project topics included cookies, sound, meteors, blood, volcanoes, plants, and more. The rest of the students at Central got to view the projects Friday morning. It was fun to see the hard work put in by all families and the variety of science experiments. They are already looking forward to next year!

Hodags Care Program Provides Opportunity for RHS Students to Help the Community
|
The Rhinelander High School Key Club has developed a new philanthropic program for our community. The Hodags Care program is organized by students and the goal is to give back to our community. The Rhinelander Kiwanis Club has agreed to match the donations made by the RHS students.
The Key Club is looking for community groups and/or local charities to participate. They are looking for projects/causes that are in need of donations. They ask for everyone's help in spreading the word to local groups and organizations. The RHS students who participate in Hodags Care will take all projects into consideration and decide on how they want to donate as a group.
March 25th was the deadline for applications this school-year, however, the program will continue next school-year and the Key Club would love to hear from you if you have a project/cause in mind. Please contact Eric Burke, SDR Superintendent, by email at burkeeri@rhinelander.k12.wi.us or by phone at (715) 365-9700 if you are interested in making a donation or have a project/cause that you would like to be considered.
The students are excited to make this happen. Please consider being a part of Hodags Care!

Each 4K student was challenged to read at least 10 books with their families each week for the entire month of March. Each link in the paper chain (pictured) represents a book that was read at home. If the paper chain reaches the library at Crescent Elementary, the students will get a PJ & Movie Day in April. Stay tuned to see if they reach their goal.

First Graders Learn About Birds' Amazing Bodies
|
The first graders at Northwoods Community Elementary School learned about how birds use their bodies to survive. After choosing their favorite bird, students described its beak and feet using strong adjectives. Then students used powerful verbs to explain how the body parts help the bird to survive.
Using their new knowledge, the first graders created Mystery Bird Riddles onto a platform called Book Creator. Audience members had to guess which bird the riddle described. As a culminating event, the class invited other NCES students and their families to listen to their bird riddles. The group also enjoyed snacking on bird nests.

Mad Money Event Teaches Budgetary and Life Skills
|
On Tuesday, March 8, Rhinelander Partners in Education, in collaboration with the School District of Rhinelander, hosted the annual Mad Money event to all sophomore students at Rhinelander High School. This year’s event featured both a budget simulation in the morning and mock interview sessions in the afternoon. Motivational speaker Mike McGowan was also highlighted at the event.
As part of the event, students were transported into the future, given various careers and life situations. They experienced balancing their budget when obtaining housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs.
Speaker Mike McGowan engaged the students on many levels through his personal experience. Students completed mock interviews with more than 30 business professionals from the community. Students also learned more about the Inspire program and opportunities available to them to learn more about careers in our community.
A special thank you goes out to all organizers and community members who made the event a reality.
