Cooler Weather - At Last!
Days are shorter, temperatures are lower, autumn is in the air. It's a good time of the year, with the tail end of summer still hanging on but mixing with the fresh cool air of fall. It can be Minnesota at it's finest. Warm sun, brisk nights, perfect conditions for active outdoor people like us.
So tell me, what's the first thing every local skier thinks of this time of year? Why, it's Hoigaard's Tent Sale, of course! With shorter days come early thoughts of skis, snowboards and comfy warm jackets, all available in abundance in the tent! This is by far our biggest, most popular event of the year. Shopping for bargains at the Tent Sale is a tradition in many skiing families, going back generations.

Tonkawood Ski School. Instructing young skiers for over 40 years.

TonkaW. Ski School Kids begin skiing at Tonkawood as early as 3 years of age. Small classes, lots of one on one instruction and just plain fun has made for many happy skiers. We encourage the entire family to join in - many parents teach or assist with classes. Since each student is given a full day ticket, many families ski together after classes.

Classes are held at Powder Ridge Ski Area in Kimball MN. Every year 6 sessions - some Saturday mornings and others Sunday afternoon - are held. Classes begin mid-December and continue through mid to late January. Each lesson is 2 hours long and includes a cocoa break. When the extreme cold hits, classes are cancelled and rescheduled.

Many of our advanced, eager skiers join Team Tonkawood - our race team. Tonkawood is a member of the Minnesota Ski Development League - which holds 4 races per season at metro ski areas. Our team trains at Powder Ridge under top local race coaches for 8 sessions. A midweek training session is also available. The races begin mid-January and are held every other Saturday through mid-February. The program is designed to foster friendships, build a strong team spirit and develop a high level of skiing skills.

If interested email Nancy Bizzano ( nbizzano@gmail.com) or Ellie Crosby (elliercrosby@gmail.com).

Kids who enroll in any of the three schools receive discounts at Hoigaard's on new ski or snowboard equipment and clothing.

Hoigaard's also offers a youth ski & snowboard buy-back program as well as a season-long rental equipment at reasonable rates. Our staff can always provide you with sound advice on these schools and on all the options for your child's ski or snowboard equipment and apparel
