A Message from the District Attorney...
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
I hope you all had a safe and healthy New Year with your loved ones. Even amid the doldrums of the year-end holidays, my office remained hard at work safeguarding the public.
In the last couple weeks, we secured a 5-year prison sentence for a Yonkers man who strangled his partner to unconsciousness in front of their then-2-year-old son. And we obtained a guilty plea from a Mount Vernon man who stabbed another man to death in a cold-blooded assault.
I also stood arm in arm with Gov. Kathy Hochul, our fellow District Attorneys, volunteers with Moms Demand Action and other gun reform advocates to announce new legislation aimed at curbing the proliferation of ghost guns in New York State.
Perhaps most significantly, we obtained a sentence of 23 years to life in state prison for Hasseem Jenkins, the man who savagely murdered Westchester County social worker Maria Coto in 2024.
All of this exemplifies my unwavering commitment to holding violent offenders accountable, and to working with our governmental partners to make sure our criminal justice system keeps pace with the innovations in criminal conduct.
On Monday, we will observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. King's lifelong struggle to secure equal justice for all inspires me every day as I enter the courthouse that houses the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. Dr. King's statue is located on the pavilion right outside my office, and I can see it from the window. It is engraved with his timeless quote: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
I strive every day to embody these principles, and I promise to work this year toward delivering justice to everyone in Westchester.
