The Alexander Technique is Freedom

In two inspiring and informative interviews, James Power talks about having a severe stroke at the age of six, and how finding the Alexander Technique in his early teens helped him to recover from the stroke's debilitating effects: "I have gone from often struggling to walk 13 metres to being able to run 13 miles regularly." Power went on to become an Alexander Technique teacher himself. His definition of the Alexander Technique: "Freedom." Interview 1. Interview 2.

Alexander Technique Teacher Training:

New Trimester Begins This Winter

Alexander Technique teacher Deena Hyatt before and after teacher training.

The Alexander Technique Teacher Training with Marian frankly changed the course of my life. I began training to work on myself, because I had been in chronic pain. Once I found freedom from this persistent pain, and continued delving deeper into the Technique, it became clear I really wanted to share this work."

Deena Hyatt, AmSAT Certified Teacher

The Alexander Technique Center of Washington is accepting applications for the upcoming winter trimester. The three-year course follows the standards of teacher training established by F. Matthias Alexander, the creator of the Alexander Technique. This unique professional training is approved by AmSAT, the American Society for the Alexander Technique. Words of Wisdom

"Reeducation is not a process of adding something but of restoring something."

"Every single thing we are doing in the Work [Alexander Technique] is exactly what is being done in nature when the conditions are right, the difference being that we are learning to do it consciously." From Aphorisms by F. Matthias Alexander

"Flute Playing Is as Easy as Breathing"

A feature article by Cressida Godfrey on Alexander Technique teacher and flutist, Alexander Murray in Pan, the Journal of the British Flute Society: "For anyone doubting the benefits of a lifetime of flute playing and Alexander Technique, they need look no further than former principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra, AT practitioner, and flute designer Alexander Murray! Now in his 90th year, Alex is as enthusiastic and fascinated by the flute as ever. He keeps in shape by playing baroque flute every day, transposing into different keys and playing on either side!"–Cressida Godfrey. Link
