Introducing our 2024 Mary Lathrop Trailblazer Award Honoree

Congratulations to

Hon. Charlotte N. Sweeney!

Join us as we introduce Hon. Charlotte N. Sweeney as the 2024 honoree for the CWBA's Mary Lathrop Trailblazer Award, our highest honor! 

Judge Sweeney was selected for this award because she embodies the qualities of a true trailblazer in her professional career and her commitment to community service. She is the first openly LGBTQ federal district court judge in Colorado and the first LGBTQ woman to serve as a district court judge west of the Mississippi. Prior to her appointment to the bench in 2022, she dominated the field of employment law at the helm of her own law firm where she was a fierce advocate for women, people of color, the LGTBQ community, and people with disabilities. Her work on pay equality has been groundbreaking in the courtroom and at the General Assembly. Judge Sweeney has also been a member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association for more than 25 years, regularly volunteering as a speaker and actively working on several of the committees. She has dedicated both her professional life and precious free time to advancing the interests of women and other vulnerable populations in the legal community and beyond.

To follow our holiday tradition, we encourage our members to make monetary contributions to Project Safeguard, this year's nonprofit beneficiary.  

Project Safeguard empowers and partners with people who have experienced gender-based violence, helping them navigate a course of survivor-driven justice through expert, trauma-informed legal advocacy and representation.

When making a donation, CWBA members can check the “Add a dedication to your donation” box and select “On behalf of” from the dropdown, then enter “CWBA” as the name of the addressee. This is how we track the giving! We also encourage you to donate for Colorado Gives Day tomorrow to help them receive matching funds.

Dress for Success Denver is a nonprofit that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and professional and personal development tools.

This year, they would appreciate donations of the following items for their inventory: accessories (shoes, jewelry, handbags) and business clothing in size 2X (18 and 20), including pants, shirts, blazers, and dresses.
