December is a time to remember all that the year has brought us. We experienced another year of growth as the demand for family law increased throughout the pandemic. All of us have been challenged to step up in inventive and resourceful ways that have ultimately created an expanded and hyper-efficient team.

Santa’s elves didn’t miss a beat this year. The halls at our 12,000 square-foot San Jose office have been decked in holiday cheer, with three Christmas trees and full décor. Every year, our employees each play “Secret Santa” to a randomly assigned colleague. We drop clues to surprise and delight our “Secret Santa person” throughout the month and anxiously await the Annual HK Holiday Celebration for the big Secret Santa reveals.

On December 16th, we dressed up and met at Boulder Ridge Golf Course to celebrate each other, and the season. The Partners treated the team to a spectacular luncheon, gave speeches of gratitude, and then we all raised glasses to honor the season and reflect upon the year. Next came the Secret Santa reveals, which were exciting and heartfelt as each of our 40 employees took a turn at appreciating their secret recipient while presenting them with their carefully chosen holiday gift.

This month, we gladly spotlight and celebrate Calvin Nguyen, Assistant (to the) Office Manager. In 2015, Calvin joined HK as a Legal Assistant where he provided administrative support. In February 2020, he was promoted to Assistant Office Manager / Lead Legal Assistant. Since then, Calvin has been instrumental in efficiently managing our legal support operations. Happy Birthday (Dec 8th) to Calvin, and thanks for all that you do to make it a great day at HK.

Congratulations to Andrea Justo, Associate Attorney, on her re-election as President of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association, where she will serve throughout 2022. SCCTLA is a non-profit organization committed to providing members with continuing legal education, networking and involvement with the local bench, providing the community with fair access to the justice system and promoting a positive image of Trial Lawyers. SCCTLA is also a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider.

In true holiday giving fashion, the season would not be complete without a way for our team to give back. This year, we have partnered with the Marine Toys for Tots Silicon Valley campaign and are hosting a toy drive. This has provided us with the opportunity to leave gifts under our office tree for children who are most in need of toys this Christmas.
