Department of Human Services Warns of Possible SNAP Scams
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is warning residents of a potential scam in which people, regardless of whether they are recipients of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), receive a text regarding an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. If recipients are receiving text messages asking for personal information or information about their specific EBT benefits, it is a scam. DHS is asking recipients to contact DHS’s Fraud Tipline at 1-844-347-8477 to report the issue.

Diabetic patients have a high incidence of peripheral vascular disease and neuropathy. Both of these conditions put them at higher risk for injury, infection, and amputation. Regular foot screenings help to identify risk factors and lower the risk of infection/amputation.
Some diabetics qualify for regular routine services by a podiatrist or even diabetic shoes with custom molded insoles in an effort to help further reduce their risk. Coverage for these services are dictated by a patient specific insurance and they would require a diabetic foot exam to determine their qualification.
As a general rule, diabetics should have a foot exam at least yearly, but should contact their foot doctor if they notice any cuts, scrapes, bruises, or other lesions that do not appear to be healing quickly/appropriately or if they start having new symptoms like numbness, tingling, burning, or pain in their feet.

Health Awareness Events in November
Throughout the month of November, we are highlighting:
These awareness months encourage us to take the time to learn more about various health causes. Click the links to learn more and spread the word!

Every November, National Diabetes Awareness Month helps to sound the alarm on the diabetes epidemic. In the United States, more than 37 million people have diabetes, and one in five of them does not even know they have it. Additionally, 96 million U.S. adults have prediabetes, and eight in 10 of them don't know they have it. These numbers illustrate the critical need to increase support and spread awareness of this chronic disease.
To see if you are at risk for diabetes, you can take this 60 Second Risk Test for Type 2 Diabetes:
Risk Test | ADA (diabetes.org)
Also, make an appointment with your CHDC provider to learn more about your status and treatment options.
