The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs celebrates the holiday season with Holiday Magic in Historic Charleston, offering free, family-friendly activities and live performances for everyone in the community to enjoy.

Holiday Market in Marion Square

Shop Local this Holiday Season at our Annual Charleston Holiday Market in Marion Square on Saturdays & Sundays, 9am-2pm for the first three weekends in December. Enjoy a bounty of fresh local produce & homegrown creativity with additional vendors and decorations!

Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting



Broad St. to Calhoun St.

December 7th at 3:00pm


Come join the City of Charleston for this fun, high energy parade which will commence on Broad Street at Rutledge, travel North on Meeting Street, and conclude on Calhoun Street at Meeting Street. Participants include musical ensembles, clubs and organizations. Tree Lighting to Follow in Marion Square.

Holiday Parade of Boats


Charleston Harbor

December 14 at 3:00pm


Join another Lowcountry tradition at the Holiday Parade of Boats. This display of lighted and festive boats proceeds from the Cooper River, through the Charleston Harbor and into the Ashley River. This is a family-friendly event is sure to become a holiday tradition for everyone. View the procession along Charleston’s waterfront or decorate your own boat and join the parade (advance registration required).

Chanukah in the Square


Marion Square

December 29 at 4:00pm


An initiative of the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston and Chabad of Charleston and the Lowcountry, Chanukah in the Square is a festive celebration featuring live music, arts and crafts and traditional seasonal food, culminating with the lighting of a menorah at dusk.

Holiday POPS with Charleston Symphony Orchestra

Charleston’s favorite holiday tradition continues! With special guests — the CSO Chorus, beloved soloists, dancers, and surprises along the way — Holiday Pops will feature seasonal holiday classics from around the world. This spectacular celebration of joy and holiday cheer is guaranteed to entertain and delight audiences of all ages.


Featuring special guests, including Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., who first burst onto the national conscience as the Sinatra-and-Soul singing season six winner of NBC TV’s “America’s Got Talent” with his incredible voice, undeniable charisma, and unparalleled showmanship. Landau has made dozens of TV appearances including “The Today Show”, “The View”, CNN, “Fox and Friends”, “The Talk”, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Hollywood Christmas Parade.

Dance Conservatory of Charleston is delighted each winter to present The Nutcracker, one of the most treasured performing opportunities in a dancer’s life. A brave young girl, her prince, a pageant of ballerinas and a cast of dreamlike characters in a world filled with magic and sweet delights. Our student dancers are part of this beloved holiday tradition. With 250 student dancers comprising two casts, we are proud to present a production in which every student shines, from our children’s and primary division dancers as Little Mice and Gingerbread, to our pre-professional students in the principal roles of Sugar Plum and Snow Queen. We are also thrilled to present Sean Rollofson, former Pacific Northwest Ballet & BalletMet dancer and City Ballet of San Diego principal, as Snow King and Cavalier in this year's performances. Experience the sounds that define Charleston’s unique southern charm — gospel, Gullah, Gershwin, Civil War songs, jazz and light classics — coming to life in historic Circular Congregational Church during live 75 minute concerts.


Don’t miss our Special Holiday Editions in December! In addition to our normal program, we add a number of Holiday selections and serve light snacks after each show. Circular Church is festively decorated for Christmas during these candlelight performances. We even have performances on December 22nd, 26th and 30th when the arts scene is quiet in Charleston!

Christmas on the Battery: Carols, Candlelight, and Gullah Christmas Stories


December 5 - 6 at the Edmondston-Alston House


Enjoy a special evening at the historic Edmondston-Alston House. Take a self-guided tour of the festively decorated house by candlelight and hear the Charleston Caroling Company. Warm up in the courtyard with wine or hot cider where a local storyteller will perform Gullah Christmas stories.
