Dear Community Foundation Friends,

The spirit of community is infectious, and in no time is that more evident than the holidays. I am heartened by the outpouring of support this generous community has shown this year in propelling the impact of our programming which saw 96 students receive college scholarships, 25K people visit downtown Coral Gables in March for Moon over the Gables and nearly $3 million awarded to deserving non-profits. During this season of celebration and reflection, we are thankful for all you do throughout the year to help us meet the needs of our shared community.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation is proud to celebrate 32 years in The City Beautiful and is privileged to inspire impactful philanthropy through charitable funds and programs using our local knowledge, expertise and trusted relationships.

As we close 2023, I would like to extend my heartfelt best wishes and many thanks to our Fund Holders, Rocks of the Community, Merrick Society Donors and our distinguished Board of Directors.

Become a Merrick Society Member

Engaging and improving our community, the annual donation made by Merrick Society donors is a vital part of the Foundation's work. The Merrick Society was established to preserve key philanthropic activities in the Gables and is an exclusive giving society comprised of a long-line of Coral Gables residents and leaders of the business and philanthropic communities who care deeply about our shared community. Merrick Society member benefits include annual receptions for our members, a commemorative lapel pin, a windshield sticker and name recognition in our marketing materials and on our website year-round. Merrick Society members are always part of our Board of Directors Installation and Reception each January, our Holiday Party in December and our annual Gala in the Fall, as well as other important events throughout the year. Donors also have opportunities to engage together directly in service to the community.

Establish a Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation

A Donor Advised Fund provides a central vehicle for your charitable giving allowing you to direct your giving and receive maximum tax advantages, while we provide the back office and administrative support, necessary due diligence and required filings. With a Donor Advised Fund, you receive an immediate tax deduction upon each contribution to your Fund and are not required to distribute a minimum amount annually as with a private family foundation. Your Fund may be established in your name, or in the name of your family, organization, or anyone you wish to honor.

Make A Donation Directly from Your IRA

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple, popular way to benefit public charities such as the Coral Gables Community Foundation and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the gift.

Donors can enjoy supporting the Coral Gables Community Foundation through our Unrestricted, Community Giving and our Scholarship Funds with their IRA Charitable Rollover. Gifts to Donor Advised Funds do not qualify.

This gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover. You may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short. If you would like to know more about the benefits associated with the IRA Rollover and how to make this type of gift,  please contact us today. We are ready to assist you in pursuit of your charitable goals.
