December 2023 - Merry Christmas!

Dec 24-26 | 2023

Due to the absence of snow (sigh!), the lodge will not be open over the Christmas holidays but Club Members are still welcome to use the trails & head out for a hike. Special "no snow" individual and family day passes are available for visiting family or guests.

Saturday, Dec 30 | 1:00pm-4:00pm FREE event for all Club Members! Drop by and enjoy some social time around the fire pit, wax your skis and let the kids (or grandkids) have some outdoor fun! There will be a scavenger hunt on the Forest trails, biathlon "eco-aim" demos, a guided mountain bike ride (all levels) and snacks! And yes, music for snow dancing!! Let's give Mother Nature a friendly nudge!

Anytime | 2023/2024

As soon as we get a decent dump of snow, all ski trails will be closed for pedestrian traffic so that our dedicated grooming team can pack it and squeeze the maximum number of weeks out of this pesky El Nino winter. Updates will be always be posted on our website first and then shared on Facebook too. Multi use trails remain open for hiking etc.

January 12, 13, 14 | 2024

Have you snagged your tickets yet? This popular event will sell out and is a major fundraiser for Wapiti Nordic. New this year - the Sunday show is now a 2:00pm afternoon matinee. Each show has a different line up of 6-8 films and never disappoints. Makes a great date night or reason connect with like minded friends!

Dec 31 2023 | Registration closes

There are still a few spaces left for the Winter 2024 Bunnies and Jackrabbits programs. The sessions will run snow or no snow and a majority of rental equipment has already been issued to registered kids. Parents will be emailed directly with specific details.

Jan 13-14 2023 | Calforex Cup

Pending the arrival of adequate snow, the Club is looking forward to hosting the annual Calforex races on Saturday Jan 13 & Sunday Jan 14, 2024. This event travels around the province and as host, Wapiti Nordic benefits from the fundraising it brings. Join the Biathlon volunteer experience - training provided if needed.

Last edition we recognized several local businesses who have helped our club out either through discounted fees or gift in kind services. So we have created a page on our website to recognize them and encourage our members to support local whenever you can!

A big Thank You to everyone who attended our Fall General meeting on Sunday, December 3rd. Draft Minutes will be posted before Dec 31, 2023. The ski swap held before the meeting was pretty slow, likely due to a lack of snow so we may host another one in January - stay tuned!

Winter | 2023-2024

The Wapiti Nordic Race team is busy (and growing tired of dryland training) preparing for the Arctic and Alberta Winter Games. We’re still looking for volunteers for the games so please come on out and help our racers feel the GP spirit! Trials for the Alberta Winter Games will be held on January 6th- we’ve been getting creative and skiing on frost!! Please get your snow dance on!!

Winter | 2023-2024

Chicks on Sticks has started...sort of! With there being no snow we are walking the trails to start getting our ski legs ready for when it does snow! Meet at Steve Cooper Lodge Monday and Thursday ready to walk 7:15 pm.  Come ready to exercise with your friends! Once we get snow we will let you know when the Chicks will be jumping in the tracks! Note: no Chicks on December 25 or January 1
