Alzheimer Society Durham Region Holiday Banner

Greetings Friends,

As the year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to you for being part of our community. During this holiday season, we recognize the strength, resilience, and love that exists for those facing both the joys and challenges of dementia. We also acknowledge the deep bond that connects care partners to their loved ones and to each other, and the importance of supporting one another during both the difficult and the joyful moments.

At the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, our mission goes beyond improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and their care partners—we strive to create a network of care, understanding, and connection. Whether you're facing a challenging day or celebrating small victories, please know that you are not alone. We are here to walk alongside you, offering not only resources but a community that cares.

As we approach a new year, it’s a great opportunity to look back on our past achievements - many of which would not have been possible without the support of our clients, donors, staff, and volunteers. This year, ASDR reached a significant milestone in achieving a 4-year accreditation through the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. We also expanded many of our programs, added new partnerships, and built new relationships with different communities across Durham Region. As I reflect on the past year, I am left feeling inspired and eager to continue our work because I know there is more to achieve.

I believe fully that we are stronger together, and as we look forward to the new year, we remain deeply committed to fostering a sense of belonging and connection for all who are impacted by dementia, their families and their care partners.

From all of us at ASDR, we wish you a peaceful, restful holiday season filled with love and connection. May the new year bring moments of comfort, joy, and continued support.

With warmest wishes,

Gillian Barrie

Minds in Motion Quote. The program was excellent. My husband had an infection that left him extremely weak physically and mentally. It was amazing watching his strength grow each week. Pre-infection I would never have got him to participate in a program like this, now he talks about it to everyone he sees. We are very pleased with it.
