Downtown Allentown Construction Update
6th Street Sidewalk Now Open!
Located next to Miller Symphony Hall, STRATA Symphony, a 71-unit luxury apartment building, is nearing completion. This third STRATA apartment complex will include a 106-space underground parking garage and two drop-off zones for Allentown arts community patrons to utilize. 
CMS Silver Winds Performs at Allen Organ
Community Music School's Silver Winds Flute Choir performed at the 2017 Allen Organ Company Holiday Concert in Macungie, PA. The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Elaine Martin and includes CMS students Sabrina Collings, Nicole Masucci, and Daphne Snover.

There are no lessons and the office will be closed from December 21 - January 2. Only pre-scheduled MAKEUP LESSONS will be offered on Tuesday, December 19 & Wednesday December 20. If you are unsure if you have a lesson, please LOG IN to your online account to view your schedule. Regular Wednesday lessons resume on Wed, Jan 3. Enjoy the holiday!

Josh Klein announces the release of the debut album for his new project, Hairy Dudini. The concept is a combination of improvisation with music technology & collaborations with select musicians. It features four tracks of a live trio band, five tracks of duo loop machines through Ableton Live, & four tracks of solo work, also edited in Ableton. All tracks were written & recorded during the session, live with no overdubs. Dr. Holly Roadfeldt announced the release of her debut album, The Preludes Project, on RAVELLO Records. It features a complete recording of Chopin’s Op. 28 preludes for piano & a new set of twenty-six piano preludes written by American composer, & Dr. Roadfeldt's husband, Kirk O’Riordan. She performed selections from this recording at a benefit recital for CMS in January 2017. Visit www.hollyroadfeldt.com.

Certificate of Musical Achievement in Piano Evaluation Date Announced for May 6, 2018
In 2017, CMS piloted a Certificate of Musical Achievement Program in Piano, under the direction of Dr. Holly Roadfeldt & with financial support from the George R. Schermerhorn Family Fund. Students of all levels showed their yearly progress by performing two pieces (3-15 minutes) & technical studies for a panel of judges, who provided encouraging comments about their pieces & their technique. The CMS CMA curriculum is designed with levels 1-12 to strengthen motivation and a provide a sense of accomplishment in students’ music studies. This year's piano evaluations will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 and the deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

Allen Organ Installs Organ at the Vatican
Congratulations to Allen Organ Company - a great friend of CMS!
During the first week of December, Allen Organ President Steven Markowitz and Vice President Barry Holben traveled to the Vatican to install a new three-manual Allen GeniSys organ, which will be used as the exclusive organ of the Sistine Chapel Choir and in St. Peter’s Basilica to support the Basilica’s music ministry.

This group for advanced flute players will continue to hone technical skills while expanding performance repertoire in a variety of genres. 

CMS (Not So Original) Dixieland Jazz Band
Thursdays @ 6:30 pm
Allentown
Learn to perform this fun style of jazz with other talented musicians of all ages! The focus will be on traditional jazz with plenty of opportunities for improvisation.

Since most lessons are in the afternoon/evening, CMS does not always follow weather-related closures of area school districts. If the Director cancels lessons for safety reasons or inclement weather, it will be posted on WFMZ.com, cmslv.org, our Facebook page, and voicemail at 610-435-7725.
