THE HUB DIRECTOR'S CORNER

On my mind and from the heart...

The holiday season brings hustle and bustle and for us at The HUB that seems to be especially true. So while we were in the midst of juggling events to entertain the masses, managing ever shrinking storage space, putting out a years worth of saved merchandise for the holiday shopping frenzy, staffing shortages and client needs that far outweighed our capacity to help; time stood still.

We received a piece of shocking news. The words that come in the midst of a day and make all the noise of everyday fade into the background. It’s then that you get a laser focus on what truly matters. News that makes you stop in your tracks and look at the world differently.

A member of our team was given a terminal diagnosis right before the Thanksgiving holiday. What started as a trip to the urgent care for fatigue and a few other symptoms ended in a trip to the hospital with results that changed everything.

Many of us have had these times where we are touched by someone we know getting terrible news. In those moments life looks differently, we see our own fragility and remember that we all have an expiration.

It serves as a reminder that we only have so long to live on this planet. So many minutes to touch the lives of others, to do good, to give to our children a legacy of love and self confidence. To have no regrets and live like we were dying. Because we all are dying. ..

As our hearts at The HUB wrap around the news our team member received we are all just a little more kind, a little more thankful, a little more compassionate and a lot more willing to not sweat the small stuff.

As you gather with friends and family this holiday season we hope that the spirit of love and joy will fill your hearts. After all we don’t have forever on this planet.

The HUB is happy to announce that the Good Grief Group is back at The HUB. Who is Good Grief?

The Good Grief Support Group has operated consistently for over six years helping approximately 70 recent and not so recent widows learn how to live with their grief rather than in it. They empower, educate and support one another in a unique setting of sisterhood.

This is definitely not your typical "support group" or like one you have ever known. One widow with another makes all the difference. It is a gift to yourself that you don't think you want or need.

The mission of Good Grief is: To empower, educate and support widows in living with their grief rather than in grief through the formation of a sisterhood. We support one another to model courage while recognizing and meeting our unique and basic needs. Striving to give stability and consistency to a widow's constant adjustment.
